Story 55 And Running
Still Going a Story a Day… And this weekend, Kris and I have a fun run. Actually, I have two. On Saturday, along with five or ten thousand others from Las Vegas, we will do the 5k Rock and Roll race. Really easy for us. Kris and I will walk four blocks from our home and then run around downtown, starting up Las Vegas Blvd and ending on Fremont Street before walking home for dinner. That should be great fun. Then the next evening I will manage to find my way to the Strip. That is no easy feat since the entire strip from the airport to downtown is closed…

A Day of Running
Finished Two 5K Runs… Started off way too early this morning in a park in Henderson. Really nifty park and lots of people for a good charity cause. Kris and I decided to stay together and just walk it since the run/walk was not timed. We walked until we got over our 5K and headed for a restaurant we had not been in for going on two years. The Squeeze Inn. We used to be regulars there, but you know… Pandemic. The manager and two of the wait staff remembered us and were shockingly excited to see us back. That was wonderful and let me tell you, it felt great…

The 70 @ 70 Project
THE SUMMARY… This challenge was to publish 70 major books from my 70th birthday to my 71st birthday. (A major book is a novel, a novella, a collection, and any major editing project with my name as editor on the cover.) Individual short stories do not count. I published 51 total of those stand-alone. And see the image of all the books in order at the bottom of this post. Keep in mind this started a week after the election here in the States and months ahead of any vaccine. Yes, this was that year… Here is a list of all publications and the date and type. November Nov 10th:…

Here I Go Again…
Tomorrow, First Run… Far, far too early in the morning, but for a great cause, a children’s cancer fund. 5K Now the great plan that started back in July didn’t pan out real well, even though I did a ton of things right. I managed for almost two months to do more than 5K in steps per day, so far without missing more than a couple of times. Some days past 10K in steps and some running. I also made sure that every day I ate less in calories than I spent. I had almost no misses since the first of August. I had hoped to lose one pound per…

Exercise Streak Started
May 1st Start… This isn’t actually the start of my moving toward exercise and losing weight. In fact, I have been working on it since February to change eating habits, increase distance, and start the drop in weight. Today finally I feel I can start the daily distance streak. And yes, I know I said back on November 15th when I completed that marathon that I would not do another. Well, with luck, I lied. Maybe another one before my 71st birthday, and a few after as well. This fall I have (and am) signing up for a bunch of 10k weekend charity runs, already signed up for two half…

I Got Nothing…
Day Was A Day Off… Got up after four hours sleep and ran/walked a 5K at sunrise with Kris. I wasn’t planning on running, but did anyway. So bottoms of my feet were sore when done. Made breakfast when we got home, then passed out for three hours and had lunch. Then Kris and I piled into the car and went back to the scene of the crime from that morning and did another 5K. This time Lisa joined us, so while Kris went off running, Lisa and I walked the 5K through the desert and the rabbits and had a perfectly fine time. (Kris ran both races without stopping.)…

Why The Vastness of Space Workshop…
Because It Is Fun To Learn and Use In Fiction… Really is that simple. Problem is, so many writers (and I have read three just lately) who do not know space terms and measurements, or do not know how to fake it, or go around it. And using a term wrong is deadly to a story. The problem is that for almost all humans, understanding real distances in space is just almost impossible. Unless you work on it and are interested in it, your mind will not even pretend to grasp the real distances of space. But this does not mean you can’t write space opera and science fiction. Quite…

That’s Annoying
Just One of Those Things… As last night, another annoyance caused by epic disorganization. And I do mean epic. Fixable, but annoying. This today comes from my inability to get organized in a meaningful and long-term fashion with my writing and publishing. And this concerns Smith’s Monthly. Today, I really dug into the layout of Smith’s Monthly Issue #45. Now understand, Issue #44 came out in the summer of 2017. I have a ton of ads and promotions about a lot of my books in each issue. You know… filler. Since the magazine is all mine, might as well promote some of the other stories and series and such I…

Went Running…
Well, Sort of… Kris and I and Lisa did a live, in-person race this morning. One of the few the state has allowed to happen. We went out in 25 person waves every thirty minutes, and even inside each wave we were spread apart. Very safe. Beautiful day, sunny, in the 60s. Typical Vegas December day. I managed to run just over a mile of the three miles, walked the rest. Not exercising much for three weeks since the marathon and still slightly sore feet made this an easy one. Kris beat me by a long ways and she’s nursing a sore knee. And I think Lisa tied her best…
