    First Run of the Year…

Yes, Kris Beat Me… I got up over five hours ahead of when I normally get up, so that was fun (not). But this year the temperature was perfect. And we were joined by Ron and Lisa Collins and Bridget Collins. And I did more running than I expected to do after my failed summer of getting in shape. I managed about a quarter of a mile straight running, then ran a block and walked a block. I got a distance ahead of Kris, but she caught me just after the two mile mark. I ran another block and got back ahead of her, then she caught me for good…

    The Promised Running Post

I Finished… It was not pretty, but I finished and that is all that counts. A number of days back I did a post about finishing the 5K on Saturday in cold and wind and stunning amounts of rain. What I didn’t mention that was when I got home after a fun dinner with Lisa and Ron Collins and Brenda and Dave Hendrickson, four hours had gone by and when I took my shoes off, there was a puddle on the floor and my socks were soaking wet. And worse yet, my feet looked like prunes and all my carefully built-up protection from blisters was gone. Now, I am stunningly…

    Workshops Sent and Running Pictures

Fun Day… First off, business…. All the Special Workshops from the Fantasies Collide Kickstarter have been sent out. They are sent to your Kickstarter address and they have links, so check your spam filters and such if you signed up one of the two special workshops in that campaign. If you can’t find them, email me. This afternoon I did the last 5K race before I do the half marathon toward the end of the month. I did not manage to drop the weight I wanted to since last summer, but I am still going to do the half. Running and walking. Today the goal was to do the first…

    Fun Run… Fun Pictures

Uphill, Both Ways… Well, it felt that way to a guy still overweight. Granted I have lost four pounds in the last few weeks, but not enough to run too much uphill on bad knees. I ran the first seven tenths of a mile to start, which turns out was slightly downhill. Feeling great. Walked a short hill, then turned a corner and all I could see into the distance was uphill. Well over a. mill uphill. So I walked it. Ran small downhill sections, but walked all the hills, far more walking than I had planned, and missed the podium by one spot. Got 4th in my age group…

    Great Santa Run

Me and 5,000 Friends Out for A Run… Weirdly enough this year, even with the eye problems which made tripping a real hazard, I managed to run a ways. No Santa Run before this have I run at all. Just too many people, but Las Vegas Blvd has been redone, wide, pavement, smooth, and I managed to stay on my feet and with and ahead of Kris for a half mile or so before we turned onto older streets and I dropped to walking to stay as safe as I could. This is a major charity event for Opportunity Village and every year they try to have the record for…

    Exercise and Weight Update

First 5K Run Is In One Month… Yikes, not having the weight-loss success I had hoped. In fact, I suck. I even gained a pound this last week. I have been eating much healthier. And fewer calories. The problem is the exercise. I get started, then get focused on something else and just flat forget. Start a streak, miss, forget. Two months now of that. Some good things are that my muscles and skin are tightening up, and it is getting easier to run, even though I am still heavier than I want to be. But wow, the intense discipline I thought I could bring to this has not arrived…

    Blog 3,650 In A Row…

Without a Miss!!! That’s right, I have had a blog up here of one type or another every day for ten straight years, as of today, August 1st. No computer crash (three or four), no power outage (dozens and dozens), no sickness (one night in a hospital), and no moves (3 major moves) caused me to miss a day in ten straight years. That is flat pure luck. And a lot of help from Kris who nightly asks me if I have my blog done. Thank you! During the ten years blogging, I wrote eight or nine non-fiction writing books here as a chapter per blog post, plus started three…

    May 1st Restart

Some Months Make More Sense Than Others to Restart… For me, I am used May 1st to restart a number of things. First, I am restarting my minimum milage per day. I clock steps and for me 2,000 steps on my Fitbit is almost always exactly one mile. So starting May 1st I am going to hit 3 miles (6,000 steps) per day and then every week increase that by 500 steps. I need the exercise and why May 1st is a good time to do that is because as the weather warms up here in Vegas, I will be spending a lot of time daily at the gym, which…

    Running Pictures

Motivational Monday… Since in the Motivational Monday videos tomorrow, I talk about my running and how just not stopping is the key in running and writing, I figured for Sunday I would post some running pictures I promised last Monday. So here they are. All copyright Rock and Role Marathon except the last one. First one about a mile after the start. I’m still running fine. Damn this was crazy fun. Second picture is somewhere in the middle of the miles…Pretty much everyone around me was walking. Third picture is nearing the finish of the 13 miles… I’m back running again, if you call it that… Picture just after the…

    Finished the Half Marathon

Not Fast, but Finished… I purposely made myself keep a slower pace because I am still overweight from my running weight and have been so stupidly busy over the last three weeks I haven’t trained at all. My goal with the scar on the bottom of my foot was to just finish. (Scar ended up not bothering me at all.) So started off with so much traffic around the closed Strip, I just gave up getting too close and parked about 1.2 miles away from the finish exist and it was another two miles to get from my car to the starting line. So total for the day just right…
