The Promised Running Post
I Finished… It was not pretty, but I finished and that is all that counts. A number of days back I did a post about finishing the 5K on Saturday in cold and wind and stunning amounts of rain. What I didn’t mention that was when I got home after a fun dinner with Lisa and Ron Collins and Brenda and Dave Hendrickson, four hours had gone by and when I took my shoes off, there was a puddle on the floor and my socks were soaking wet. And worse yet, my feet looked like prunes and all my carefully built-up protection from blisters was gone. Now, I am stunningly…

An Accomplishment…
Finished a 5K in Nasty Cold Wind and Rain and Sleet! And yes, still planning the half marathon tomorrow. Went by our condo twice on this. Would have been easy to just say, “Enough.” I actually got 13th out of 23 runners in the 70-74 age group. Considering that I walked most of the way, very pleased that I even finished. 5,000 plus people signed up, only 23 men around my age group even participated. Does that tell you something about the lack of exercise and conditioning of people, let alone writers in general. No wonder so many writers die so young. So here are a bunch of pictures from…

5th Year…
Of My Doing The Rock-N-Roll Half Marathon… Here in Vegas. There is a 5k run on Saturday and then the half marathon on Sunday. I have finished the half four previous years, very slowly, but I finished. And every year I have done it by myself in pretty nice conditions. I had personal issues each year, but I made it and it was grand fun. This year a couple of friends are going to do the half with me and another is doing the 10K which starts with the half. So not alone this year. Yay!! (I mean when I say, “doing the half with me” is that they will…

Another Fun Running Post…
Got Some Fantastic Pictures The professional photographer with Calico Racing, the great folks that put on this last weekend’s 5K took these pictures. The first one is Kris zooming past me… Yes Kris can zoom. Notice the enjoyment she is getting out of leaving me in the dust. Second picture me running… Third picture is of Kris running. I think this might be one of the best pictures of Kris ever taken. Can’t tell we really love staying in shape, can you?

Workshops Sent and Running Pictures
Fun Day… First off, business…. All the Special Workshops from the Fantasies Collide Kickstarter have been sent out. They are sent to your Kickstarter address and they have links, so check your spam filters and such if you signed up one of the two special workshops in that campaign. If you can’t find them, email me. This afternoon I did the last 5K race before I do the half marathon toward the end of the month. I did not manage to drop the weight I wanted to since last summer, but I am still going to do the half. Running and walking. Today the goal was to do the first…

Today Everything Has Started…
Stunning Amounts of Stuff… Wow, was this a busy start to a new year for new workshops, Kickstarter, diet, and exercise. I signed up for the tracking of trying to run/walk 2023 miles in 2023. For me that is just over 11,000 steps a day without missing for an entire year. Yeah, that’s a streak. Down two pounds on my first weigh-in of the year on Monday, so considering the holidays, a total win. And I am slowly trying to bring up the running a little without damaging my old knees. Mostly just walking the 5.5 miles a day at the moment. The eye is slowly improving but still really…

Fun Run… Fun Pictures
Uphill, Both Ways… Well, it felt that way to a guy still overweight. Granted I have lost four pounds in the last few weeks, but not enough to run too much uphill on bad knees. I ran the first seven tenths of a mile to start, which turns out was slightly downhill. Feeling great. Walked a short hill, then turned a corner and all I could see into the distance was uphill. Well over a. mill uphill. So I walked it. Ran small downhill sections, but walked all the hills, far more walking than I had planned, and missed the podium by one spot. Got 4th in my age group…

Great Santa Run
Me and 5,000 Friends Out for A Run… Weirdly enough this year, even with the eye problems which made tripping a real hazard, I managed to run a ways. No Santa Run before this have I run at all. Just too many people, but Las Vegas Blvd has been redone, wide, pavement, smooth, and I managed to stay on my feet and with and ahead of Kris for a half mile or so before we turned onto older streets and I dropped to walking to stay as safe as I could. This is a major charity event for Opportunity Village and every year they try to have the record for…

A Bunch of Pictures
From Today’s Two Charity Runs… Up stupidly early for a cancer charity run that Donny Osmond backs and was there. Kris just kicked my ass, but I still finished four minutes faster than my time at the Vegas Strong run two weeks ago. It felt slower, but I was faster and got 4th in my age category. But Kris got 3rd in her age group. Not at all sure what got into her, but I stayed with her and ahead of her for the first two miles, then she just left me in the dust. Then a great breakfast at a favorite restaurant, The Squeeze Inn, and home for a…
