Short Run Down
Long One to Go… Great fun. Seemed like a billion people but guessing around twenty thousand. I ran some, walked a lot, mostly because so many people and I have a long run tomorrow, a half marathon. So mostly out testing my feet. No blood when I took off my shoes, so a win there. With all the walking to the race, around in the race to get started, then after the race down to a restaurant in the Circa, then back home, I did about seven miles. Tomorrow, with the walking to get to the race, the 13 mile race, and the walking to get back to the car,…

Story 55 And Running
Still Going a Story a Day… And this weekend, Kris and I have a fun run. Actually, I have two. On Saturday, along with five or ten thousand others from Las Vegas, we will do the 5k Rock and Roll race. Really easy for us. Kris and I will walk four blocks from our home and then run around downtown, starting up Las Vegas Blvd and ending on Fremont Street before walking home for dinner. That should be great fun. Then the next evening I will manage to find my way to the Strip. That is no easy feat since the entire strip from the airport to downtown is closed…

Going to Try For Sleep
Got a 5K Run Early… So got my story done early, going to rest for a bit and go to bed a couple hours early. Still won’t get a full night’s sleep, but will help. The course tomorrow has a pretty good hill on it, but I am still going to try to break 40 minutes. Now my fastest is 31:19, but won’t get close to that since that was two years ago and I was five pounds lighter and it was a flat course. So 40 minutes is my goal. I know, for you runners, that’s slow, but I’m old, and if I do that I should win my…

A Day of Running
Finished Two 5K Runs… Started off way too early this morning in a park in Henderson. Really nifty park and lots of people for a good charity cause. Kris and I decided to stay together and just walk it since the run/walk was not timed. We walked until we got over our 5K and headed for a restaurant we had not been in for going on two years. The Squeeze Inn. We used to be regulars there, but you know… Pandemic. The manager and two of the wait staff remembered us and were shockingly excited to see us back. That was wonderful and let me tell you, it felt great…

Results of the Race… And Pictures…
A Fun Morning… What was not fun was getting up smack in the middle of my night with 4 hours sleep. Nope, not fun. But wow was this Candlelighters Run well done! They had over a thousand people in this nifty park and running in the 5K. It started off into a suburb near the park and never left. That’s right, I was running in Bryant Street. But all the kids and superhero costumes were so much fun. It got hot really quickly on pavement. Wow. Kris got about a minute’s head start on me in the crowds, but I caught her in about ten minutes and went past. I…

Here I Go Again…
Tomorrow, First Run… Far, far too early in the morning, but for a great cause, a children’s cancer fund. 5K Now the great plan that started back in July didn’t pan out real well, even though I did a ton of things right. I managed for almost two months to do more than 5K in steps per day, so far without missing more than a couple of times. Some days past 10K in steps and some running. I also made sure that every day I ate less in calories than I spent. I had almost no misses since the first of August. I had hoped to lose one pound per…

I Got Nothing…
Day Was A Day Off… Got up after four hours sleep and ran/walked a 5K at sunrise with Kris. I wasn’t planning on running, but did anyway. So bottoms of my feet were sore when done. Made breakfast when we got home, then passed out for three hours and had lunch. Then Kris and I piled into the car and went back to the scene of the crime from that morning and did another 5K. This time Lisa joined us, so while Kris went off running, Lisa and I walked the 5K through the desert and the rabbits and had a perfectly fine time. (Kris ran both races without stopping.)…

Some Pictures of the 26.2 Miles
Major Limping Today… Always fun to limp on both feet, but both getting better and in a few days to a week the blisters will be gone and I will only have the feeling of completing the run. Since this is Covid-land we are all living in, no spectators were allowed anywhere on the course for any reason. Even the one person guarding each aid station backed up about ten feet from the table when any runner came by and wore gloves when putting out the cups and pouring the water and such. So unlike most big races, this race took pictures for free and sent them to everyone. They…

Thank You Everyone!!!
Thanks for the Congratulations… Very very much appreciated. And yes, this was it for marathons for me. Accomplished the goal, now I’m going to keep running, but stick with the fun 5K, 10K, and half marathons that are more fun and don’t do the damage a marathon does. The charity runs, mostly. They keep me in shape as well. Update today. Not a pretty sight me walking. Kris bandaged my bad heel again, but the rest of the damage is bruising and blood blisters and really sore leg muscles and knees. And Advil is in my future shortly this morning. And a lot of time in this chair and on…

Well, I Did It… 26.2 Miles…
In My 70th Year on the Planet… I completed the Revel Mt. Charleston Limited Edition Marathon. Picture of my medal below. And sometime this week the race will post pictures from the run and I will post some here. As I said, I completed it, but not well. For years I had been working toward a marathon in November when I would turn 70. But all my great planning went out the window like so much other stuff last April with Covid. I did not dare go to a gym to run at my advanced age and the summer here in Vegas was the hottest ever recorded in the history…
