Made It Out On the Long Walk…

I Did Just Fine… Actually a little better than expected. I ended up cutting the walk short by two miles down to 11 miles because it was Friday and part of my mapped path went past the new Circa Casino and Fremont Street downtown and on a Friday, that’s just too stupid and too dangerous Covid-wise. So once I realized I had laid out that path and it was Friday, I just cut off that loop and ended at 11 miles. No issues with the feet and at eight miles I did some running to see how that felt and it was fine. And this course tonight had a ton…

    Still Distracted…

Didn’t Go Out On the Long Run/Walk… Wanted to watch the election stuff for the third straight night. So, with luck, this election race will be called on Friday and I can get back to writing and answering emails and get that long walk/run in. (In other words, my normal life.) To be honest, that will be wonderful. I am now officially tired of this and have eaten far, far too much crap out of pure nerves. So tomorrow I will report the outcome of the long run/walk (About 13-14 miles) and how I did. I got to get this in this weekend some time, then give myself more than…

First Live Race of the Covid Time

Really Fun. Same, Yet Different… Small group, all social distanced at the starting line because they had been sending groups off for hours ahead of us. Temp checked when we checked in. It was a run in the dark with great street lamps on the course except for about a block, that part was pitch black. With a pond on one side, so kind of scary as well. And for me it was too warm. I have no idea when this heat wave here is going to break, but got a hunch when I am freezing this winter I am going to wish I hadn’t complained about the heat so…

    Exercise Update

Marathon is 4 Weeks Away… I did not have a good last two weeks since I set this goal. Most of it was the record heat still (we are still in the 90s here… how stupid is that?) And I am not going to a gym. First week I planned to do 49 miles, did just under 40. This week I am about the same pace, but running a live 5K tomorrow evening, the first live run since this pandemic started. So that should be fun. Next week I ramp up the milage and the running, see how that goes. So my goal is still the same. Get to the…

    Filler Post…

Meaning Nothing… Day 2,991 if the blogging streak. It’s Friday night. I hate Friday nights. Too many years of tending bar to ever like Friday nights. Of course, my last Friday night tending bar was in May 1987. Think I would be over it by now, huh? (grin) I spent the day doing workshop stuff, doing some reading, doing a bunch of writing, recording a workshop, and getting some miles in exercise. Still 12-14 degrees above normal here, so making it almost impossible for too many miles. But I am getting some miles in. I have very, very bad feet (from being too poor as a high school kid to…

    An Exercise Goal…

Granted, A Stupid One… I just heard from a marathon run (26.2 miles) that I had sighed up for a few months back that it will actually happen on November 14th. Shocked, I say. Shocked. I signed up just not believing it would happen, but they figured out a way to do it to get the state to approve it. Now I am in decent shape, but not marathon shape, and still about ten pounds overweight to try that distance. But I have six weeks. When I am not injured, which I am not at the moment, I average about 40 miles per week of a little running and a…

    I Gave It A Month

Total Failure… I am no longer trying to get up at 7 am to exercise and start my day early. About a month or so ago I said I would try it for the exercise aspects and because it was too hot here at any other time. I tried it, and some mornings it was actually in the low 90s, still too hot for me, but I got some milage those days. I ended up seldom getting more than five hours sleep, had to take naps all the time, ate too much, and was a ton less efficient than I am at night. So now, even though we are still…

    Last Fall

Kris and I Ran a Lot of Fun Runs… Wow, that seems like a long time ago. But the running group I have joined put on four or five of those, and are trying to put on three of them this fall again. They were the group behind a large run called Vegas Strong to benefit the shooting victims. That would be running in a week, but was cancelled because it was just too big to be done safely. The other three they put on are still under review and might work because the runners can go out in waves. I used those runs last year to stay motivated and…

    Exercise Update

A Bust of a Week… Managed one 8.5 mile day, another 5 mile day, and the rest right at 3 miles per day. Mostly because I’m letting blisters on the bottom of my feet get better. Painful little suckers. So tomorrow (actually about eight hours from right now) I will be joining the running group again to do 3 miles to start the day. With luck, that will get this coming week back on track. And then cut the intake down some on the food and I’ll be back on course. Need the weight to come down so the milage can go up. My first marathon is December 5th. Might…
