Exercise Streak Started
May 1st Start… This isn’t actually the start of my moving toward exercise and losing weight. In fact, I have been working on it since February to change eating habits, increase distance, and start the drop in weight. Today finally I feel I can start the daily distance streak. And yes, I know I said back on November 15th when I completed that marathon that I would not do another. Well, with luck, I lied. Maybe another one before my 71st birthday, and a few after as well. This fall I have (and am) signing up for a bunch of 10k weekend charity runs, already signed up for two half…

I Got Nothing…
Day Was A Day Off… Got up after four hours sleep and ran/walked a 5K at sunrise with Kris. I wasn’t planning on running, but did anyway. So bottoms of my feet were sore when done. Made breakfast when we got home, then passed out for three hours and had lunch. Then Kris and I piled into the car and went back to the scene of the crime from that morning and did another 5K. This time Lisa joined us, so while Kris went off running, Lisa and I walked the 5K through the desert and the rabbits and had a perfectly fine time. (Kris ran both races without stopping.)…

Went Running…
Well, Sort of… Kris and I and Lisa did a live, in-person race this morning. One of the few the state has allowed to happen. We went out in 25 person waves every thirty minutes, and even inside each wave we were spread apart. Very safe. Beautiful day, sunny, in the 60s. Typical Vegas December day. I managed to run just over a mile of the three miles, walked the rest. Not exercising much for three weeks since the marathon and still slightly sore feet made this an easy one. Kris beat me by a long ways and she’s nursing a sore knee. And I think Lisa tied her best…

Some Pictures of the 26.2 Miles
Major Limping Today… Always fun to limp on both feet, but both getting better and in a few days to a week the blisters will be gone and I will only have the feeling of completing the run. Since this is Covid-land we are all living in, no spectators were allowed anywhere on the course for any reason. Even the one person guarding each aid station backed up about ten feet from the table when any runner came by and wore gloves when putting out the cups and pouring the water and such. So unlike most big races, this race took pictures for free and sent them to everyone. They…

Thank You Everyone!!!
Thanks for the Congratulations… Very very much appreciated. And yes, this was it for marathons for me. Accomplished the goal, now I’m going to keep running, but stick with the fun 5K, 10K, and half marathons that are more fun and don’t do the damage a marathon does. The charity runs, mostly. They keep me in shape as well. Update today. Not a pretty sight me walking. Kris bandaged my bad heel again, but the rest of the damage is bruising and blood blisters and really sore leg muscles and knees. And Advil is in my future shortly this morning. And a lot of time in this chair and on…

Well, I Did It… 26.2 Miles…
In My 70th Year on the Planet… I completed the Revel Mt. Charleston Limited Edition Marathon. Picture of my medal below. And sometime this week the race will post pictures from the run and I will post some here. As I said, I completed it, but not well. For years I had been working toward a marathon in November when I would turn 70. But all my great planning went out the window like so much other stuff last April with Covid. I did not dare go to a gym to run at my advanced age and the summer here in Vegas was the hottest ever recorded in the history…

Made It Out On the Long Walk…
I Did Just Fine… Actually a little better than expected. I ended up cutting the walk short by two miles down to 11 miles because it was Friday and part of my mapped path went past the new Circa Casino and Fremont Street downtown and on a Friday, that’s just too stupid and too dangerous Covid-wise. So once I realized I had laid out that path and it was Friday, I just cut off that loop and ended at 11 miles. No issues with the feet and at eight miles I did some running to see how that felt and it was fine. And this course tonight had a ton…

Still Distracted…
Didn’t Go Out On the Long Run/Walk… Wanted to watch the election stuff for the third straight night. So, with luck, this election race will be called on Friday and I can get back to writing and answering emails and get that long walk/run in. (In other words, my normal life.) To be honest, that will be wonderful. I am now officially tired of this and have eaten far, far too much crap out of pure nerves. So tomorrow I will report the outcome of the long run/walk (About 13-14 miles) and how I did. I got to get this in this weekend some time, then give myself more than…

First Live Race of the Covid Time
Really Fun. Same, Yet Different… Small group, all social distanced at the starting line because they had been sending groups off for hours ahead of us. Temp checked when we checked in. It was a run in the dark with great street lamps on the course except for about a block, that part was pitch black. With a pond on one side, so kind of scary as well. And for me it was too warm. I have no idea when this heat wave here is going to break, but got a hunch when I am freezing this winter I am going to wish I hadn’t complained about the heat so…

Exercise Update
Marathon is 4 Weeks Away… I did not have a good last two weeks since I set this goal. Most of it was the record heat still (we are still in the 90s here… how stupid is that?) And I am not going to a gym. First week I planned to do 49 miles, did just under 40. This week I am about the same pace, but running a live 5K tomorrow evening, the first live run since this pandemic started. So that should be fun. Next week I ramp up the milage and the running, see how that goes. So my goal is still the same. Get to the…
