Running On Hot Pavement…
Yeah, That’s a Good Idea… But for a good cause and we raised some money for it, so we did it. The course was around and through a mall and its parking lot. The race started late and it was over eighty degrees and bright sun when we finally started. I ran most of the first mile, then settled into a plan. I would run in the sun, walk the shade. So I ended up around 40 minutes or so. I think. Pretty good pace and I didn’t push myself at all. So fun. And here are some pictures of me and Kris. And yes, Gavin, our cat really is…

Going Running
And the Season Starts… Tomorrow morning, at some amazingly early hour, Kris and I are headed off to do a charity 5k run. We are doing about ten of these charity runs around town before the end of the year. All for great causes. (Tomorrow is St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.) The high temperature tomorrow will be 102 here, more than likely one of the last hot days of the summer. We have promised ourselves that if it is too warm when the race starts, we will just walk. I’m sure we’ll both start off running, knowing us. (grin) I am working toward a marathon in the middle of November, and…

Holy Smokes… It Is July!
July Workshops Are Starting… I had no idea how it got to be suddenly July. Do we need to send out a search party for June? Wow, that Licensing Expo and all the learning just took June and flashed it past for me. So anyhow, working on reading challenge stories and getting out stretch rewards to the wonderful backers of Kris’s Diving Series. And because I didn’t realize it was July already, I almost forgot to do the assignments for the June workshops tonight and start the July ones. Almost no one signed up in the July workshops, so if interested, lots of room, just like this time every year.…

A Really Stupid Thing to Do
I Made the 13 Miles… Last fall, with great plans to keep dropping the weight which went by the way because of a bunch of great excuses, I had signed up for a half marathon today in the outskirts of Las Vegas. (Half Marathon is 13.1 miles… About 27,000 of my steps) But since the weight loss had failed completely over the winter and I have actually gained almost ten pounds since the heady days of sending in that application, I wasn’t going to do it. And also since I had not run one step in over three weeks and even had a bunch of days I didn’t hit my…

Running Tomorrow…
That’s Right… Another 5K Fun Run… Only this one has about 14 or so professional writers taking part. And doughnuts afterwards in the convention suite before we start for the day on stories. Some of them vegan doughnuts. All wonderful. There will be pictures, so expect those. I will be near the back of the pack. And it will be great fun. We opened up the evening talking suite tonight, a penthouse suite with more than enough room for fifty professional writers to gather in groups and talk in the evening. The networking will be great fun on this workshop, just like the Master Business Class in October. So now,…

As Promised…
Pictures… Crawled out of bed at 6:30 a.m. and Kris and I were headed out the door before 7:30 am on a rainy and slightly cold morning for Las Vegas. All to attend a “5k fun run.” Actually it was for a great cause and made money to support rare childhood diseases and turned out to be a lot of fun, although very, very wet. (A squishing sound coming from a 68 year-old-man is never promising.) For the first time since I fell in November, I finished ahead of Kris and with a time around 38 minutes, but still run/walk. Got to work that down to around 30 minutes which…

Some Stuff
Ran in a Five K Fun Run This Morning… Actually I am still in run/walk mode, but managed to run about 2 of the 3 miles total. In another month I’ll be running the entire distance. (Pictures below) And still averaging over 10,000 steps a day. ——— Fantasy Detective Story Bundle I curated is on the last few days. Don’t miss this one if you like really different fantasy mystery stories. For $15 you can get a ton of great reading. ——— New Pop-Up is Live!!! On Teachable. This one is about how to help your career by understanding Second-Hand Sales. I know this makes no sense to many of…

Too Much and Too Little
There is a Line To Walk Between the Two… I got a great question the other day about what I have been trying to do with my exercise and losing weight. And I realized the question also applied to my getting back solidly to writing. The question was: “Why are you pushing so hard to get back to exercise and running?” As those who follow here regularly know, since I got to Vegas in August, I have been working to add distance to my walking and running while at the same time losing weight. Two weeks ago, in a 5K run, I was down 20 pounds and had gained lung…

Running Fun?
Still Totally Exhausted… But Kris and I were signed up for this Halloween 5k run this morning, so even though I had no energy at all, I managed to crawl out of bed at 6 a.m. and be going through a starting gate at 8 a.m. On the other side of the valley. Great costumes. I was so slow, at one point I was passed by a very overweight man wearing an alligator suit with a long tail. He said in a very friendly manner as he went past, “Let’s go!” I would have kicked him in the tail, but I was too tired and he was too fast. But…

Switching the Schedule To Daytime
Started Today… To get to writing and making things possible for me to write enough hours to do this ten novel challenge, Kris and I decided I needed to switch my schedule to writing during the day. It just fit everything about living here in Vegas. Just as writing late into the night fit everything about living on the coast. So today I got up a little before 7 a.m. and Kris and I were going across the starting line of a 5k race at 8 a.m. Now some of you know I have been trying to lose weight and I want to run a marathon in the middle of…
