Exercise Again
Every So Often I Just Have To Talk About This… Exercising. Critical for writers. Not a fun topic and most writers just sort of shrug and move on. But since I didn’t get the time to really unpack everything Brandon is doing on his Kickstarter today and record some videos about it, I figured I would fill this blog tonight with a reminder to exercise. I am working to lose weight and my goal as I have told many, is to run at least one marathon in my 70th spin around this planet. I am building toward that with a written-out plan that I have in a notebook beside my…

A Very Satisfying Feeling…
When the Versa on My Wrist Buzzes… That means I have hit my 10,000 steps, which is five miles for me. For those of you who don’t know, a Versa is a Fitbit in watch form, sort of like an iWatch. It gives me the time, my heart rate, my steps, my miles, and how many calories I have burned so far in the day. All on the face of the thing. I have the calories set assuming I am 180 pounds instead of 195. And there are a ton more features, including tracking my sleep every night. Up until I got this thing, I had never worn a watch,…

Goals…
Setting Goals In an Uncertain Time… Many, many writers I know, me included, are goal focused. I can work to deadline when the deadline is real. I can set goals out a month, six months, a year, and longer, and once set, I can stick with them. But the times, at the moment, are uncertain. (Duh…) We are all (mostly) staying at home and in place to keep the virus from just flattening our hospitals and killing a ton more people than it needs to. And the reopening is going to be slow and painful for some time to come. I’m doing fine on the writing and the publishing because…

Not A Run For Me
I Took It Easy… This morning was a true fun run. No timing, the course was less than 5K and no one cared. It was for a great cause. And I am still slowly nursing along a sore hip. Getting better, doing stretches, but I decided to go another week or so without a push. This week I will be at the gym doing stretches and getting some milage, building back up my milage as the weight slowly drops. And haven’t missed being over 10,000 steps a day for two weeks now. Nice streak started there. And in two weeks we have a double run. Same run, actually, but 5…

Went Running Again
Pride Run at the Springs Preserve here in downtown Las Vegas. Running around a desert in the middle of the city starting at 7 am. The Preserve is a fantastic place and Kris and I support it by being yearly members. But 7 am??? I went to bed at 2:30 am, got up at 6 am. Picture below of me trying to pin my bib on as the sun comes up. Yeah, that was fun. Sharp-pointy-things and no sleep go well together. My hip is feeling better, so thought I would give the 5K a try. I did fine. I actually stayed with the leaders of the 5k for about…

Running Picture and Cat Picture
After Laughing at a Beginning Writer’s Ego… In the last post, I figured I had better post two pictures. First one is of my hoping to the heavens after running over six miles that someone will meet me in about fifty steps on the other side of the finish line with a wheelchair. No one did. First 3.1 miles was all uphill. Oh, my… Second picture is of our cat Cheeps looking as handsome as ever.

Anthology Workshop News and A Cat Picture
On Teachable Now for Assignments If you are in the anthology workshop and did not get a letter from me tonight (Sunday) on how to get into the anthology workshop on Teachable to get the third assignment, write me. ANOTHER RUN… Two in two days, although the Santa Run wasn’t much of a push because with that many people, running was almost impossible. Too much fun, anyway. But today was another matter. I was up before the sun came up and we were going off the starting line in Henderson at 8 am. Cold, wind in our faces, and uphill for exactly 1.5 miles. Without a break. Brutal. But I…

Well, That Was Fun…
Actually the Run Was Fun… Then I got home and couldn’t load the first assignment to the Anthology workshop group list. So after giving it some time and a dozen different tries, I created an entire new workshop on Teachable that no one could see but the people I sent direct links to it. And I put the first assignment in the anthology workshop there. Did a cover for it and everything. And just about as I was about to start emailing everyone in the workshop with the code, I tried one more time and ended up loading the assignment. So if anyone in the anthology workshop has not gotten…

Some Misc Stuff
I Got a Couple of Questions About Why… … I was cut off the marathon course at mile 11 instead of later on. Simple math is the answer. I had reached the 11 mile turn at 2 hours and 10 minutes. Now I had on my planned-out schedule that was about the latest I could hit that point and I was wrong by a few minutes. It was too late. Actually, I wanted to hit it under two hours. Here is the thinking… I did 11 miles, while fresh, in 2 hours and 10 minutes. That means if I was lucky, I was going to do the next 11 miles…

13 Plus Miles
A Half Marathon… That’s what I mostly ran tonight on the Strip in Las Vegas with about 35,000 other runners from all over the world. I had left it up in the air if I would try for the full marathon, even though I had signed up for the full. The full marathon leaves the half marathon course at 11 miles. The full marathon has a very tight time on it because they have to open back up the Strip and if a runner is falling behind, they divert them ahead and still give them credit for running a marathon. I was not in good enough shape to really run…
