    A Very Satisfying Feeling…

When the Versa on My Wrist Buzzes… That means I have hit my 10,000 steps, which is five miles for me. For those of you who don’t know, a Versa is a Fitbit in watch form, sort of like an iWatch. It gives me the time, my heart rate, my steps, my miles, and how many calories I have burned so far in the day. All on the face of the thing. I have the calories set assuming I am 180 pounds instead of 195. And there are a ton more features, including tracking my sleep every night. Up until I got this thing, I had never worn a watch,…

    Goals…

Setting Goals In an Uncertain Time… Many, many writers I know, me included, are goal focused. I can work to deadline when the deadline is real. I can set goals out a month, six months, a year, and longer, and once set, I can stick with them. But the times, at the moment, are uncertain. (Duh…) We are all (mostly) staying at home and in place to keep the virus from just flattening our hospitals and killing a ton more people than it needs to. And the reopening is going to be slow and painful for some time to come. I’m doing fine on the writing and the publishing because…

    Not A Run For Me

I Took It Easy… This morning was a true fun run. No timing, the course was less than 5K and no one cared. It was for a great cause. And I am still slowly nursing along a sore hip. Getting better, doing stretches, but I decided to go another week or so without a push. This week I will be at the gym doing stretches and getting some milage, building back up my milage as the weight slowly drops. And haven’t missed being over 10,000 steps a day for two weeks now. Nice streak started there. And in two weeks we have a double run. Same run, actually, but 5…

    Went Running Again

Pride Run at the Springs Preserve here in downtown Las Vegas. Running around a desert in the middle of the city starting at 7 am. The Preserve is a fantastic place and Kris and I support it by being yearly members. But 7 am??? I went to bed at 2:30 am, got up at 6 am. Picture below of me trying to pin my bib on as the sun comes up. Yeah, that was fun. Sharp-pointy-things and no sleep go well together. My hip is feeling better, so thought I would give the 5K a try. I did fine. I actually stayed with the leaders of the 5k for about…

    A Good Run

Vegas Strong 5K… Basically three miles. Started on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, went for about a mile on Las Vegas Blvd toward the Strip, then headed out into the neighborhoods, ending up back on Fremont Street. About 2,500 people ran or walked for a great cause. This was to honor and help all those killed and injured in the mass shooting on October 1st two years ago. This city is amazing in how it has dealt with that. It started at 8 am, so we left our condo at 7:30 and walked to the race. Very early. For me, this was the first timed run of the fall…

    Losing Weight

Might Be The Hardest Challenge I Have Ever Done… Now, granted, I am being successful at it. Frighteningly slowly and certainly not in a straight down line. But it dawned on me this week that this might be simply the hardest challenge I have ever taken on, and I’ve tackled some big challenges over the years. For three years now I have aimed at a marathon here in Las Vegas. For a year before I moved and also last year. Both previous times (and maybe one other a few years earlier) flat didn’t work because I couldn’t get the weight down fast enough to ramp up the running in time.…

    Running On Hot Pavement…

Yeah, That’s a Good Idea… But for a good cause and we raised some money for it, so we did it. The course was around and through a mall and its parking lot. The race started late and it was over eighty degrees and bright sun when we finally started. I ran most of the first mile, then settled into a plan. I would run in the sun, walk the shade. So I ended up around 40 minutes or so. I think. Pretty good pace and I didn’t push myself at all. So fun. And here are some pictures of me and Kris. And yes, Gavin, our cat really is…

Slightly late posting on this one…

Wanted to See If Pictures Appeared… From the run yesterday on the run web site, but they are not up yet, so only picture I got is one Kris took as I came across the finish line. Yes, Kris was that far ahead of me that she could finish, get out her camera, and get set to take pictures of me finishing. Actually my time wasn’t that bad. I had been walking/running regularly for the first two plus miles, staying ahead of Kris and then she would pass me while I was walking. Then the course went across a couple parking lots (very hot) and along a very shadeless sidewalk…

    Some Stuff

Ran in a Five K Fun Run This Morning… Actually I am still in run/walk mode, but managed to run about 2 of the 3 miles total. In another month I’ll be running the entire distance. (Pictures below) And still averaging over 10,000 steps a day. ——— Fantasy Detective Story Bundle I curated is on the last few days. Don’t miss this one if you like really different fantasy mystery stories. For $15 you can get a ton of great reading. ——— New Pop-Up is Live!!! On Teachable. Fun New Year’s Eve

Hope Everyone Kicked 2018 To The Curb With Fun… Kris and I sure did. We started off the day working, then a quick lunch, then more work. Then by 3 p.m. we were standing in a very windy, very cold park getting ready to run a “fun” 5k run to end the year. Wind died as we got started, so it turned out to be fun after all. Then home for a nice dinner, then a little more work before heading out to Fremont Street at 8:30 to join the crowds there in downtown Las Vegas. We saw the ball drop in New York there, then went into one of…
