Results of the Race… And Pictures…

A Fun Morning… What was not fun was getting up smack in the middle of my night with 4 hours sleep. Nope, not fun. But wow was this Candlelighters Run well done! They had over a thousand people in this nifty park and running in the 5K. It started off into a suburb near the park and never left. That’s right, I was running in Bryant Street. But all the kids and superhero costumes were so much fun. It got hot really quickly on pavement. Wow. Kris got about a minute’s head start on me in the crowds, but I caught her in about ten minutes and went past. I…

    Still Braced…

Getting Some Exercise… We were scheduled for a 3.8 mile charity run today. Kris and Ron and Lisa Collins and Brigid Collins did the entire thing. I walked to the aid station at 1.2 miles and turned around so managed  2.4 miles of exercise. Beautiful day, fun lunch afterward. Here are some pictures. (These blogs are short since I am still typing one handed,) Kris with her medal… Ron and Lisa finishing. Me hanging up the medal they gave me just for being out there

First Live Race of the Covid Time

Really Fun. Same, Yet Different… Small group, all social distanced at the starting line because they had been sending groups off for hours ahead of us. Temp checked when we checked in. It was a run in the dark with great street lamps on the course except for about a block, that part was pitch black. With a pond on one side, so kind of scary as well. And for me it was too warm. I have no idea when this heat wave here is going to break, but got a hunch when I am freezing this winter I am going to wish I hadn’t complained about the heat so…

A Really Fun and Great Thing…

Writer David H. Hendrickson Runs for A Great Cause… Award-winning mystery writer and regular contributor to Pulphouse Fiction Magazine, David H. Hendrickson has decided to run the New York City Marathon in early November. Now some of you might remember that in my last half-marathon in February here in Vegas, Dave had already finished and because I was having back issues, came back for me and helped me get through the finish line, to a medical tent, and then to the car. Dave is amazing and he just completed a Half Iron Man race. That just hurts my head. Dave is running the full New York Marathon and he is…

    5th Year…

Of My Doing The Rock-N-Roll Half Marathon… Here in Vegas. There is a 5k run on Saturday and then the half marathon on Sunday. I have finished the half four previous years, very slowly, but I finished. And every year I have done it by myself in pretty nice conditions. I had personal issues each year, but I made it and it was grand fun. This year a couple of friends are going to do the half with me and another is doing the 10K which starts with the half. So not alone this year. Yay!! (I mean when I say, “doing the half with me” is that they will…

    20 Books Convention Starting

Yes, I Am Presenting… Two different talks on Wednesday and then a panel in the afternoon with the director of publishing of Kickstarter. Going to be fun. Looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends the next few days. Had a wonderful pizza dinner with Kevin Anderson and Rebecca Moesta this evening to start it all off. So Kris is giving a presentation tomorrow morning, then I have the three things on Wednesday, then Kris has another on Thursday. So I you will see us around the convention. And speaking of in-person conferences, there is now three openings in the January craft workshop Kris is teaching on Fantasy Caper.…

    Fun Run…

Lots of Writers… Up early again this morning for a fun run before the predicted giant wind hit. So it was a beautiful morning. Ron and Lisa Collins and Dave and Brenda Hendrickson joined me and Kris. Then we went off to a fun breakfast downtown after the run. So since I am beyond tired, I’m going to let the picture speak for themselves. 1… Me before dawn trying to pin on a number. Safety pins and tired humans do not mix. 2… Kris looking bright and cheerful at the ungodly hour. 3… Dave and Brenda   4… Ron and I finishing the race. 5.. Ron and Dave doing strange…

    Exercise

Slowly Building… Very slowly, but making progress. And to do that, just like writing (or pretty much anything), I need a goal to build the habits. I have twenty pounds to drop to get to a decent running weight. Thirty pounds to feel lighter. So about three months or so ago, I actually started to pay attention to what I was eating, calories (yes, I know, but this is the way that works for me.) Eating rounded meals and watching it all, and over the last month I very seldom missed my 1500 to 1800 calories day. Portions and better snacks helped. My regular search on my phone is how…

    Short Run Down

Long One to Go… Great fun. Seemed like a billion people but guessing around twenty thousand. I ran some, walked a lot, mostly because so many people and I have a long run tomorrow, a half marathon. So mostly out testing my feet. No blood when I took off my shoes, so a win there. With all the walking to the race, around in the race to get started, then after the race down to a restaurant in the Circa, then back home, I did about seven miles. Tomorrow, with the walking to get to the race, the 13 mile race, and the walking to get back to the car,…

    Wondered Into Cave Creek Today

Sure Felt Like It… Kris and I and Lisa went out to a 5k run/walk this morning out at a historic park up on the northern edge of Las Vegas. Big old trees, a bunch of ponds, and just about every wild bird you could imagine, all in this incredible green oasis in the middle of this really harsh desert. So Kris went off running with the crowd, and Lisa and I hung to the back because we were going to walk. And it was a beautiful walk, but amazingly windy. And the course was full of twists and turns through the trees and around the ponds and lakes, but…
