Forgot To Mention
All Short Stories Are Read for the Challenge… I am finally back up to date to this week. Really fun reading, to be honest. Sadly, numbers of writers have now dropped out and I only have five novels to read for the novel challenge, which I will be doing this next week. So both the Great Challenge for a short story per week and the Great Novel Challenge for a new novel every two months has lots of open spots. Come on folks, keep me reading. I really do enjoy it. Even when I get behind due to other things, it was a blast focusing on reading and getting caught…

Dumbest New Myth In Writing
I Heard This Two Days Ago… And flat couldn’t believe that such silliness was out there, so I went and looked, and yup, it’s a real thing. And sadly, writers of all levels are believing it. And this myth is stopping them cold. Or worse yet, sending them toward traditional publishing. I know if I believed it, I would be stopped. So what is this new myth??? “It takes four to five thousand dollars to publish an indie book.” Total and complete hogwash, and folks if you see this myth somewhere, do a tap-dance on the head of the idiot who is spreading it. This is a very, very dangerous…

ONLY PLACE TO SIGN UP IS ON KICKSTARTER… About 24 hours left as I write this. The How to Write a Pulphouse Story is a three week special workshop, offered only twice, once starting the first of October and then starting November 5th. (Your choice.) Three weeks, like a regular workshop (only half as long and half the price), with three assignments. (So yes, you can take it with other workshops and sorry, no, this is not included in the lifetime subscription. Only place it is available is on the Kickstarter to help Pulphouse Fiction Magazine.) The third assignment is to write a Pulphouse story and I will read it.…

New Fantastic Stretch Goal
We Do A Zip Line ($25,000) In celebration of reaching this level, Dean will strap a camera on his head and go down the zip line on Fremont Street in Las Vegas and post the film on the web site. But even better, we will add two very special books and a very special writer’s award. Hugo Award Winning editor Kristine Kathryn Rusch will put together a very special Best of Pulphouse: The Hardback Magazine and we will give every supporter of this kickstarter an electronic copy. And editor Dean Wesley Smith will, at the same time, put together a very special Best of the Original Pulphouse: A Fiction Magazine…

Kickstarter Workshops
Some Great Deals On Kickstarter… Yes, we have put some great offers as Kickstarter rewards for workshops and lectures and things to do with writers learning craft and business. But I wanted to be clear here for a moment because of three questions over the last two days. The workshops on Kickstarter are basically credits toward anything on Teachable (including lifetime subscriptions) or toward the fees for Las Vegas Workshops. Let me run down the workshop and lecture rewards and show you exactly what I mean. — $40 pledge toward a lecture is basically a $50 credit. — $100 Writer’s Special not only includes the books and the chance to…

September Regular Workshops Starting
Yes, They Are Starting… It Really Is September… August seems to have vanished, we are past the time of great forgetting and time to fire back up on your writing. And workshops can help you get the focus back. But something special about these September regular workshops. After September, four of these workshops will no longer be regular workshops, but instead will be classic. That’s right, for almost half of these workshops it will be the last time you can take it with homework turned in. Research, Author Voice, Point of View, and Novel Structure are all going to Classic after this month. So if you want to take these workshop…

Holiday Pop-Up Special!!!
Write New Stories for Each Pop-Up… There are fourteen Pop-Ups in the series now. List is below. And for a short week or so with each one when it first appeared, anyone who signed up got a chance to write a story from a prompt and send it to me. But once that week was past, the opportunity to write passed. Videos are all still there to learn from, of course. (About 12-15 videos per Pop-Up on each subject.) Right now, #14 How to Make a Living Writing Short Fiction has a story prompt with it that is due in just under two weeks. And you can sign up for…

Short Story Pop-Up
Pop-Up #14 Will Be Up Tomorrow… HOW TO MAKE A LIVING WRITING SHORT FICTION Yup, I went and did it. I’ve done numbers of blogs on this topic, so figured it was time to add more to it and put it all in video form. And, of course, a short story assignment is included and is something special. I will have the Pop-Up available and in the bundles tomorrow evening (Tuesday), but since I just had fun recording it, thought I would mention it here. — Also going to be doing more videos in the Licensing Transition tomorrow or Wednesday, so might want to jump in on that if you…

Friday Night and I’m Reading Stories
Nope. Not For Pulphouse Fiction Magazine… I am reading for the Great Challenge. I got behind the last three weeks in reading, so promised myself that among other things this weekend, I would get the pleasure of reading a bunch of short stories. That’s what I am doing tonight. And very excited about the Pulphouse Kickstarter and how well it has done in the first two days. Exciting and gratifying for me and all the great authors who had stories in the first eight issues. Between reading, frighteningly enough, I have been working on a spread sheet for a past Kickstarter. The Make 100 Paperbacks. Finally firing on those and…

First Stretch Goal in Less Than a Day!
Hit the Goal and the First Stretch Goal… All in less than 24 hours. That’s a new record for us. Thank you, everyone, for the support of Pulphouse Fiction Magazine, and of all the authors who publish in it. Means a lot to me and all of us at Pulphouse. So thanks!! And if you haven’t had a chance yet to check it out, some really nifty stuff and great reading available. r. A couple questions this morning on the workshop and how to submit to Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. Pulphouse Fiction Magazine is not open for submissions and never will be. I am far, far too old, have too much…
