Me Talking On Another Podcast…
Every-So-Often I Lose My Mind and Say Yes… I said yes to these guys because they are nice guys and they asked nicely and they look like they are having fun. So, of course, I talked about Heinlein’s Rules and Writing into the Dark and the Magic Bakery. It’s free and might be worth a listen if you are washing the dishes or cleaning out the cat boxes, or driving to the grocery store. I am my typical dogmatic self. Traditional Book Publishers…
Why To Avoid At All Costs… I am going to make this post simple and very clear. This will hurt some of you who still believe in the 1980’s myth of traditional publishing being the best path. I am not sorry. First, a short story. Ten years ago I met a writer at a conference that was all excited about finishing a novel and getting the novel to an agent. (I had known this beginning writer from a few years before. Very promising writer.) A name writer at the conference who was still lost in traditional publishing had provided an introduction to this baby writer to an agent. Make note,…

Year of the Cat Series Completed
Volume #12 Just Shipped. Twelve wonderful volumes in total have shipped and next month the large electronic volume of all twelve books in one will go out. We did a Kickstarter over a year ago in January of 100 Cat Stories in 12 volumes. So since May we have sent out a new book every month. So now, a year later, all one hundred cat stories are out. To see all twelve of them, go to The Year of the Cat Series Page There you can get information on all twelve books, see the covers, the contents, and how to order them. Here is the cover for #12. Kris and…

Going Out Again…
Into the World With Friends… Wow, that is amazing that we are able to do that now. After 15 months of seeing no one personally (except other masked people in the elevator), seeing no friends, having no writing talks, now that has changed. Had a wonderful birthday dinner a few weeks back with Loren and Heather Coleman and two other writers who were all fully vaccinated, then dinner and lunch with Lisa a few times, then Chris and Steve York (also fully vaccinated) showed up in town on their way East and we had some wonderful dinners and late-night gab sessions. And yesterday, Kris and I went out for lunch…

Putting Together Issue #50…
… Of Smith’s Monthly Just did part of the introduction tonight and will have all the story introductions done tomorrow and the entire project turned into WMG for copyediting. I will get it back toward the end of the month for me to lay-out in InDesign. Then it will come out in electronic and paper in the middle of June. I did 44 issues without missing a month, then when Kris got sick and we had to do the sudden move down here to Vegas, I put the magazine on hiatus. Then, after a couple “I want to start…” and the world saying “Nope,” I finally started it again in…

Talked to Southwest Writers Tonight
Zoom Call With a Bunch of Writers… Fun group of between 50 and 70 at any given time and enjoyable to talk with. I talked about Writing into the Dark, similar to what I did on the big speech a few years back at the 20to50 Conference. Fun because it breaks down so many myths for writers. Forgot to mention that there is a book and a class by the same name. I really suck at self promotion. (grin) But it was a fun hour-plus. I got a great email comment and question this afternoon about Smith’s Monthly. Since I have started it back up, the question was if I…

In My New Office
Got One of Four Computers Up and Running Could not get the internet here to work, so on my phone on a hotspot until tomorrow. Kris has been using the internet down here without issue, so pretty certain I am doing something wrong. Standard. (grin) No books on the shelves yet, but that will happen after I get everything working. Ahh, the fun of moving offices. And no art on the walls yet, but there will be. If I owe you an email from the last few days, I hope to catch up tomorrow. So I am now in one of the two bedroom/offices in our downstairs condo. This will…
