Limited Signed Editions
Of Two Major Books… Back in 1987, Kris and I started Pulphouse Publishing, Inc. And for years, Pulphouse only published limited, signed editions in both cloth and leather. After a few years we branched out some into things like Pulphouse: A Fiction Magazine and Short Story Paperbacks, but even those paperbacks had fifty copy limited and signed leather editions. (Don’t even ask what the limited, signed, leather edition of the George Martin Short Story Paperback is worth these days.) But when we started up WMG Publishing back 2010, we decided to not do limited editions at first. And then as the years went by, we just never got around to…

Going Running
And the Season Starts… Tomorrow morning, at some amazingly early hour, Kris and I are headed off to do a charity 5k run. We are doing about ten of these charity runs around town before the end of the year. All for great causes. (Tomorrow is St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.) The high temperature tomorrow will be 102 here, more than likely one of the last hot days of the summer. We have promised ourselves that if it is too warm when the race starts, we will just walk. I’m sure we’ll both start off running, knowing us. (grin) I am working toward a marathon in the middle of November, and…

Just Sold 60,000 Comics
And Had A Great Dinner with Friends… Fun day all the way around. And yes, I sold 60,000 comics. For those that don’t remember, at one point WMG Publishing Inc owned a brick-and-mortar bookstore and three collectables stores. Two of which had comics in them. We sold the bookstore just after we expanded it with a Kickstarter help and it is doing wonderfully. We sold our main comic and collectables store and it is doing fantastic as well with its new owner, who happens to be the former store manager we hired. And then last February we shut down two others. Our reason was to take WMG Publishing Inc back to…

If I Can Make It
I Have A Blog Anniversay… In August, 2011, I lost one of my best friends, book dealer Bill Trojan. I was the executor on his massive estate and I lost almost a year of my writing and one of my eyes to that experience. So to get back writing, I came up with Smith’s Monthly for my fiction and started blogging daily on August 1st, 2012. Smith’s Monthly lasted 44 issues before going on hiatus for another emergency, but somehow, through it all this last year plus, my blog has continued. Not a clue how. (And Smith’s Monthly is about to return. Go figure.) So on August 1st, if I…

New Space Travelers Bundle Now Live
And I Have A Book In It… Sector Justice: A Seeders Universe novel is in this one. It stands completely alone. Basically a Star Trek like sf novel with a focus on cool space adventure, romance and some sex. Go figure. (grin) And it is a little longer than my normal novel these days. Kristine Kathryn Rusch put this bundle together and it’s a great bundle with some great books, stories, and writers. You can get it on Storybundle. What follows is a blog Kris did about the bundle. Worth the read. ————- The Space Travelers Bundle – Curated by Kristine Kathryn Rusch When most people think of science fiction,…

Working at the Bookstore
Well, At Least Hanging Around… Dan has all the construction and moving plans under control and over the next five days we will be moving a ton of books and shelves. This is part of what the North by Northwest Bookstore Kickstarter paid for. Movers will be coming in to do the heavy lifting for a time. And we are taking a ton of shelves out of Kris and my house here on the coast that we are getting rid of. We still need to build more. The new area is huge, if you haven’t gotten that idea. Here is what it looks like at the moment from the edge…

In-Person Workshops Moving to Las Vegas!!!
Starting in October… That’s right, after this summer Series Workshop here in Lincoln City, all “coast workshops” will be held in Las Vegas. That’s right, after almost twenty years here (first was in 1999), we are graduating the in-person workshops up to the next level. I will be writing those signed up for the two workshops coming up, the Business Master Class in October and the Anthology Workshop in early March to confirm if you still want to attend or not. Or you can contact me. Either way is fine. There are slight changes to format and schedule which will make this better for everyone. (We talked to a lot…

Kip Ward
In 1984 I went to work for Kip Ward… …as his only waiter in his 99 cent spaghetti restaurant called “Kip’s.” I worked there for a full year, writing, until my house near the beach in Lincoln City burnt down and my second wife and I moved back to Idaho to recover. Thirty-three years. For the last thirteen years or so Kris and I have offered writer workshops based at his wonderful and unique hotel The Anchor. I spent many wonderful evenings for years playing poker with Kip, one of the best natural players I had ever had the pleasure to go against. Kip was part of the center of…

WMG Publishing Bought a Bookstore
North by Northwest Books and Antiques shifts to WMG… About a week or so ago I saw on Facebook a post about how the owners of North by Northwest Books was going to have to close and give the store back to Sheldon McArthur. Some sort of personal reason. To say I was stunned would be an understatement. Sheldon McArthur, who many of you know, had started that store about ten years ago after he retired from being one of the most famous bookstore owners in the country. Shelly owned The Mystery Bookstore in the LA area and sold it to retire to the Oregon Coast. But once a bookstore…
