Anthropic Burped Again… Twice This Time
Got Letters Again Tonight…
First Burp…
The letters I got tonight for my 5 claims (with about 80 different books total in the five claims) was just a repeat letter that they are telling me that they got all five of my claims and all is fine. Got the same email 2 weeks ago.
But what is really going on is the court filing has been added with some changes in dates for us authors getting paid. They are supposed to send an accounting for the claims with no disputes before the 13th and then checks for those will go out later in November. So a delay in payments.
This is not really Anthropic at this point, since it is my understanding that the first 1 billion, 50 million to be paid out on these copyright claims is in an account earning interest. We shall see.
Second Burp…
The remaining 450 million owed to authors on this copyright infringement settlement was to be paid out by Anthropic either at the launching of their IPO or September 2027, whichever is earlier. (I do not expect them to survive until September 2027, so I figured that was just fool’s gold.
Well, two days ago, Anthropic filed a Form S-1 Prospectus with the SEC to go public. (That was fast and it might even be selling stock by the end of November (Unlikely, but possible under the rules)).
Now, if you get a chance, you really, really need to look at this prospectus. Head-shaking does not begin to describe this. Jaw dropping.
Over 16 Billion in revenue in the first half of 2026. (Huge increase over previous period.)
Yet after that income, they posted over an 80 Billion net loss for the same period. And they have over 131 Billion in cash and other forms of reserves. (Do the math, about eight months.)
Huge numbers, but their prospectus shows plans reaching out decades and the New York Times reports they may have contracts over the next ten year totaling over 800 Billion. (They are spending 200 billion a year with 30 billion in income for a year. Yup, no math there either.)
Yes, all those are billions.
So in half a year, after bringing in 16 billion, Anthropic still reported a net loss of over 80 billion. That means in 6 months of this year, they burned through almost 100 billion. In a half year!!!
That’s a lot of ultra-investors and venture-capitalists. No wonder Anthropic is in a hurry to do this IPO. This will suck a lot of money out of play for a lot of other stocks.
And maybe, with a ton of luck, we authors just might get the last third of this payment before this entire industry collapses.
But honestly, right now, I would just like to see some of the first two-thirds.
