    Great Santa Run

I Walked, as Did Most… Somewhere between 3-5 thousand people and kids and dogs all dressed in identical Santa suits, filling the streets of downtown Las Vegas with a 5K charity run/walk. Stupidly fun. I got up way to early for it and never really recovered today, so doing a short blog tonight with a few pictures and calling it a night. But I did manage to watch the Oregon Ducks game since Kris and I used to live in Eugene. I find it stunningly funny that forever, the powers that be back East thought no one on the West Coast could play football. But then they go and let…

    Getting Ready for January 1st…

Spending Time Getting Ready… Almost December 1st and I am doing a ton of focusing and planning for January 1st. And doing a ton of getting ready. As I said, I am loading my old traditional published books and stories into boxes to take to storage. Finding a ton of stuff I had forgotten about. For example, I knew I had been in a few Twilight Zone anthologies, but turns out Carol invited me into three of them. And wow did I achieve my goal of wanting to be a “paperback” writer. I’m filling box after box with paperbacks that I either wrote or have my story in them. Mass…

    I Have Been Lucky…

Yes, Even With Everything Going On… I consider myself amazingly lucky that somehow I have been able to continue in this profession of fiction writing now for fifty years. I mark that fifty from selling my first short story. For going on thirty-nine of those years, I have been super lucky to have Kristine Kathryn Rusch as my partner. We met when we had both sold a few short stories and just kept on going through all the ups and downs. There have been some amazing ups I can tell you, but also some stunning downs. We just keep on going, enjoying the storytelling and the publishing and our friends…

    Got My Shots…

Double Flu and Regular Covid… Kris and I went late Friday evening to get our yearly shots. Arm a little sore, and I am moving slowly, and I feel like napping, but basically no real issues. We usually make time in early October, but been a tad busy this year. So finally got them done. Taking care of our health is really critical, no matter how much the world tosses at us. So yay!! Next stop for me on the health train is I have a regular doc appointment in early January to get the clearance to do the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half Marathon in February. I see…

    First 5K In the Books…

Scary Slow But I Finished… And no, I did not run. I honestly didn’t even walk fast. I just walked. Felt strange in a couple of places. I usually start up at the beginning of the pack, but this time I waited until most had started and then took off. Secondly, I was far, far from last in the 5K. I figured I would be. Had a great lunch with Kris, then we hung our medals and then I took an afternoon-long nap since I am now sleeping again on the bed after almost seven weeks of trying to sleep sitting up. So back to doing full 5K distances. Going…

    We Went Running (and Walking)

The Zombie Run… Great fun every year. Lots of kids and parents dressed up, and this year a new course which after I got past grumping at all the hills I had to admit was better. I still have a very sore foot, so this was going to be a 5K walk for me. And I was a long ways from finishing last. Kris ran the entire way and there were a lot of hills do I am impressed. Then we had a great dinner afterward. So a fun evening. Lot of pictures below and Kris will have more on her Facebook page tomorrow. 6

    First Run of the Year…

Yes, Kris Beat Me… I got up over five hours ahead of when I normally get up, so that was fun (not). But this year the temperature was perfect. And we were joined by Ron and Lisa Collins and Bridget Collins. And I did more running than I expected to do after my failed summer of getting in shape. I managed about a quarter of a mile straight running, then ran a block and walked a block. I got a distance ahead of Kris, but she caught me just after the two mile mark. I ran another block and got back ahead of her, then she caught me for good…

    First Run In 7 Hours…

The First 5K Run of the Season… So I will be getting up five hours ahead of my normal time. Talk about jet lag. Yikes. This run, the Vegas Strong 5K, starts down on Fremont Street,  goes up and down Las Vegas Blvd in the downtown area. A couple thousand people run it in honor of the horrid shooting here on October 1st 6 years ago. This is the run I was aiming at starting back in June. I watched my calories and tried to increase milage, all without success. I lost no weight at all and I am not in good shape because of foot injuries and just flat…

    Moral Rights

A Friend Reminded Me… That I had not yet talked about moral rights in the Bite-Sized Copyright class. He did not intend to, just sent me a great moral rights topic  letter., So I just finished recording that for Monday morning. Basics, but considering most writers don’t even understand copyright or licensing, I had to keep it basic. And nope, will not explain it here. Google is your friend for the basics. It is also in the Copyright Handbook which you should own. Keeping it short this Friday night because after three full days now of my new exercise routine, I am beat up. Tonight I did 4 miles around…
