    Pulp Speed Brought Forward Again

I Figured I Would Bring The Original Pulp Speed Post Forward Again… (I wrote this post around 2014, then brought it forward to 2016, then 2017, and just about every year or so since.) Not at all sure why this idea of writing at Pulp Speed sort of hits me right. I think because it flies in the face of all the myths. A writer has to have all myths and critical voice under control to even attempt Pulp Speed One. So this post might just make you angry because it hits at belief systems I’m afraid. The second reason I can’t shake this idea is because for all of…

    Holy Smokes… Two Bundles

Books in Two Storybundles at the Same Time… First off I have a book in the Storybundle I curated by the name of Visions of the Future. Ten great science fiction books in there by some great writers. Image of the ten books below. Get it at Storybundle.com/future Then I also have a book in a Storybundle Robert Jeschonek curated basically called Weird. The book I have in there is a Pulphouse  short story anthology of really whacked out stories titled THAT’S REALLY MESSED UP. Great writers in that anthology, but then you look at the writers in this bundle and you just shake your head. Jeschonek has outdone himself…

    A New Challenge

Working On It… Kris spent time with me today as I worked over a possible new challenge for next year. Not going to start anything from my birthday to my birthday again. The new challenge I am thinking about is going to take some build-up, so it will start on January 1st, 2022. And sorry, not yet going to say what the writing challenge is going to be because nothing is set. But I can say that to do this challenge, I need to lose about 20 pounds and be in shape for some distance running starting in January. Yes, losing the weight and being in shape again will make…

    What Next?

Almost Done with 70@70 That’s the title that WMG Publishing has been calling my challenge of publishing 70 major books in my 70th year on the planet. 70@70 I kind of like it. And actually I am done with my part of the challenge, now just waiting for WMG to send the last four books out wide on Monday or Tuesday next week. Four final collections. I did the covers, all the introductions, table of contents, and so on. They were already proofed except for my introduction. So all ready to be put in Vellum and launched, which will happen on Monday or Tuesday to hit 70 in the year.…

Great Time at Writers of the Future

Home Saturday… I had a really fun week spending time with old friends and meeting a lot of young new writers. They all seemed very dedicated and very young and talented, which honestly makes me feel very positive for the future of writing in science fiction and fantasy. The event went off without a hitch, the food was amazing, and the gathering after I got out of my tux around the pool was a ton of fun. So if you are not submitting stories to this contest every quarter, you are missing the best thing you can do for your writing career. I was amazed at what some of these…

Special Workshop Codes Are Out… First, if you signed up for a special workshop in the last Kickstarter, either Making Place a Character or How to Use the Rule of Three, the links and codes are out. If you were signed up for one or both of those workshops, and didn’t get a letter from me with the Subject Line “Special Workshop” (or Workshops), please check your spam filter over the next day or so. If not there, no worries, we have time. Write me and I will get you the codes when I get back later in the week. Second, refunds on the Diving Game are slow, and I…

Only Two Days Left For the Workshop Sale!!

Just Two Days!!! Ends on Sunday, October 10th, so don’t miss this one. Everything on WMG Publishing Teachable half price. Just use the code: FALLSPECIAL Lots of new workshops and writing classes. Two months ago when we did the last sale, we suspected it would be the last one, but we had thought that before. And over this last month we have gotten a lot of questions about doing another sale. The Wet Blanket Reality… Chapter Two

Chapter Two… The Query This book is a travelogue through the steps it takes in 2022 to become a traditionally published fiction writer. So please read the Introduction and First Chapter before this one. You do that, this chapter will make more sense, as much as this chapter will ever make sense to a sane, thinking person. (Writers are neither sane or thinking at this point in this process.) So after years of work, you declare your novel masterpiece finished and have a party. So what next? EVERYONE KNOWS (stupid common knowledge and not true, but we’ll go with the myth here) that you must have an agent to sell…

    October Workshops Starting…

Tuesday and Wednesday… The October regular workshops are starting, plus the second sessions of the special workshops from the Pulphouse Kickstarter. Those two are not available for sale, but the eight October regular workshops are available and there is a half-price sale going on. See the last two posts for information. I have two more chapters in the Wet Blanket Reality book done, both on the next steps a writer goes through with agents to get to being traditionally published. So stay tuned for that. Or as they say in traditional publishing, “Hurry Up and Wait.” (Not kidding.) Remember the two new six-week regular workshops, POWER WORDS starting tomorrow and…
