Slow and Fun Day
DOING LOTS OF READING… I spent a lot of today either working on corporation taxes at the WMG offices or reading. Mostly reading. I am not only reading the stories and novels for the summer challenge, but Kris has a new Diving Universe novel that has been sitting near my reading chair for a week. I have been dying to read it. So I do some novel reading on the challenge, then Kris gives me this incredible mystery story to read. Actually a novella. So I ended up reading that, then taking a break, then reading some of the Diving Universe novel, which is stunningly good. It was everything I…

Novel Four: Finished. Challenge Made!
FOUR NOVELS IN ONE MONTH… Burn Card: A Cold Poker Gang Novel is printed and sitting on Kris’s spot for her to read when she gets time. I wrote four novels in one month while working a day job, getting rest, having a life, and so on. The only reason I could do this was because I have all the myths of writing that were jammed down my throat by non-writers out of my mind. I have always admired the old pulp writers, so over the years I have studied what they did, how they did it, and slowly incorporated what I learned into my own writing. I try to…

Novel Four: Day Five
ONE DAY LEFT… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels. I also had an exercise goal that lasted for three quarters of the month and dropped away this last week.) One more day to finish this last book. Baring unforeseen crap, I think it will happen. We shall see. I can see the end now. The Day Went Like This… Got up at 1:30 p.m., did just a slight bit of e-mail and made it to the writer’s meeting only about forty-five minutes late. Stayed there in the meeting and then in my office doing workshop stuff until 7:30 p.m. Then the grocery store and…

Novel Four: Day Three
THREE DAYS LEFT (AND YES, COUNTING)… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) Three more days after today to finish this last book. If I give it the hours, I will get it done, no issue. But again tonight got distracted. No more distractions until Tuesday night. (grin) The Day Went Like This… Got up at 2:30 p.m., did an hour of e-mail and got to WMG around 4:30 p.m. just like yesterday. Then headed out to the south store and ended up working…

Novel Four: Day Two
DISTRACTIONS, BUT STILL A GOOD DAY… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) Want to Hear Me Talk About Being Prolific? I know some of you come by here to watch this crazy challenge. But if interested, a great guy and writer by the name of Ryan Pelton does a blog about being prolific. And he was crazy enough to get me on his program. And, well, you know me, I’m blunt. So if you are interested in a fun bit of time with…

Novel Four: Day One
NOVEL FOUR STARTED… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) Took the Day Away, Still Got Started! After a meeting at WMG, Kris and I went into the valley to take time away. Felt great. No screens. And came back around eleven and got going on the novel. Really got going. See below. The Day Went Like This… Got up at 1 p.m., did some e-mail and got to a WMG meeting at 2:30. At around 4 p.m. Kris and I headed into Salem.…

Novel Three: Day Eight
Not Done Yet… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) Only made about 7,000 steps. Just no time again today. Plus once again the wind was howling here today at over 25 mph. Not comfortable. The Day Went Like This… Got up at 1 p.m. even though I was up until 7 a.m. in the morning again. Two days in a row with too little sleep. I headed out at around 2 p.m. for Newport to go see a long-time friend visiting the coast.…

Novel Two: Day Seven
Not Done Yet… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) The Day Went Like This… I made it to the WMG offices just at 3 p.m. after doing an hour of e-mail. I worked there, very quiet for a Friday, until 5 p.m. on workshops. Then headed out with Matt to walk to a restaurant about a mile away to meet some other professional writers coming into town for dinner. Fun dinner and then walked back to WMG. I did not get my 12,000…

Novel Two: Day Six
Back Writing at Full Steam… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) The Day Went Like This… I made it to the WMG offices just at 4 p.m. after doing an hour of e-mail. I slept in way too late, but seems I needed it. Went out walking and ended up with right at 10,000 steps for the day. Didn’t hit the 12,000 today because I just didn’t give it the last half hour of work. I worked on workshop stuff up at WMG…

Novel Two: Day Five
Still Another Rest Day… (As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.) The Day Went Like This… I made it to a WMG meeting a little late after two in the afternoon. Three hours later at 5 p.m. I was headed out of town to Salem. I had to shut the old brain down and just do something different, so I went picking. Found some fun stuff. About 50 salt and pepper shakers of different sorts for the grand total of $5.67. That was for…
