Something New Tonight

Surprised Me…

I got a decent night’s sleep, did a ton of work until almost 10:30 p.m. at WMG, came home, did some email, took a nap, felt great, ready to write, started the story at midnight and was done by 1 a.m. Go figure.

The Day

Got up around 11 a.m.. Then did a little email, packed some boxes, fed the feral cat outside who wanted to be toweled down (because it was raining) like Kris used to do to him.  Yes, he is feral, but Kris talked him into letting her do that much if food was there. He usually runs from me, but he has figured out I feed him now.

Then I headed to WMG offices after some interesting business stuff along the way.

I worked there until I went out to dinner with Chris and Steve York at 6 p.m.  Back there to work on workshops until well after 10 p.m. Home to do some email, watch a little television, take a nap, then get to writing at twelve midnight. A decent day of work and packing boxes.

Story #5…

Tonight I again grabbed my half-title sheets and stared at them for a moment until two jumped out at me. “A brush…” and “…with Intent.”

So I typed in “A Brush with Intent” and started typing, figuring out quickly it would be another Bryant Street Story, sort of along the same lines as the one last night. But yet different.

And I was going along great and the story wrapped up and ended. At 987 words.

I never write that short anymore. 2,000 words tends to be my baseline for the past decade or so. So I cycled back to the opening, going through it again and it still ended at 1,004 words. Seems to work as a story just fine. Not a fun one, but the title fits perfectly.

So I went back to working on email, thinking I might start another story to get one banked. But now it is going toward 3:30 a.m. and I think I’ll just go get another good night’s sleep.
