Up At 5:30 AM…
For a Run… I have a running group I join sometimes on Sunday mornings and for the first time in a month it will be cool enough for me to go tomorrow morning. Only about 76 degrees as the sun comes up. We are still record heat here. After this summer 76 will feel like I need a coat. (grin) Got to be out in Summerlin at 6:30 a.m. and that’s thirty minutes of driving, so up even earlier. So this is a filler post tonight. Daily streak at 2,984 blog posts without missing a day. My brain can’t really grasp that number to be honest. And oh yeah, worked…

Shopping and Other Fun
Headed Out Shopping Today... The one big trip out of the week. Walmart for things we need for the new office, then got gas, then on to the grocery store. You know, standard stuff. I had a pull-0ver mask (regular ones don’t seem to want to stay on my ears) and gloves. Yes, I know I really don’t need gloves, but I have them soaked in anti-bacterial spray before I leave the car each time. And besides, gloves keep me from touching my face and constantly adjusting my face mask. Masks were the normal now in both stores. Very few without them. Social distancing was also well done. Had zero…

We’ve All Been There…
New Computer Day… And it seemed like such a good idea at the time this morning. I must have been short of sleep, because I don’t take drugs. And I don’t drink, at least at that time of the day. I bought the new computer, a big and powerful Mac about three months ago for work on the Make 100 Challenge I am doing. I loaded all the Adobe Suite onto it, loaded fonts, loaded the Microsoft office onto it, and did very little else with it, mostly doing some learning on InDesign and other small stuff. But I always intended to move it into the main position in my…

Paul McCartney Took My Night
In An Amazing Three Hour Concert… Living in Vegas just sucks, as you might be able to tell. (grin) We saw Lady Gaga’s jazz concert a few weeks ago and it was fantastic and tonight Kris and I headed out to dinner at the Mandalay Bay, then took the tram a mile or so and walked a short distance to where Paul McCartney and his band were playing. Three straight hours, he never stopped and never left the stage. He’s 77, looks fantastic, sings better than ever, and puts on an amazing show. And then for one song Steven Tyler got up on stage with him. Just wow. They don’t…

Day One of Ramp Up
Partially Successful… So a good start. No writing, almost 12,000 steps, did some running, and got the food intake under control. Tomorrow I will add in the writing, get over 12,000 steps, and repeat the rest. Tonight, while walking, I set a new goal for myself, longer term than just 100 days for the weight. I want to hit 167 pounds, with luck by October 1st. If I do that, it will mean I have lost 100 pounds since my heaviest. So a great goal. I also want to be able to do ten pull-ups at that point at least. Can’t do one right now. Not a one. So got…

Second Day of Exercise and Fun Pictures
Just As With Writing Restart… I am ramping up slowly. I spent my first week here in Vegas resting and working around the condo. Kris would go off to one of the gyms to run and I would go with her and explore the area or do errands. This week, starting yesterday, I got on the exercise clothes (what a slightly overweight 67-year-old wears… sweat pants and a baggy tee-shirt) and went with Kris to the gym. I walked the track while she ran, doing about three miles. And actually ran about 1/8th of a mile to see how it felt. (awful) Today I went again with her and ran…

Rolled In After Midnight
So I Am Back On the Coast Until the End of April… Doing workshops, Pulphouse Magazine layout, writing short stories, and packing. A ton of packing. Tomorrow night I’ll talk about my preparation for the short story challenge. Mostly mind-set preparations, since I never plan what I am writing out ahead. So that ends tonight the great cat trip. 26 hour drive, two days of rest and helping them get settled, then a flight back tonight and a drive back to the coast. The cats are safely in the condo in Vegas with Kris and doing as well as could be expected. Now back to writing tomorrow after I get…

Me and The Cats Made It
26 Hours… I stopped and rested for a few hours in a hotel room around 5 in the morning, took a shower, then stopped every 45 minutes after that for the next six hours to rest and drink water and some caffeine. Left at 12:30 p.m. from Lincoln City and got in here to our condo in Las Vegas at 2:30. Had dinner in Boise with a friend along the way as well. Cats never said a word. I had them in a massive dog carrier that took help from Josh at WMG to get into the van. They had pillows and a blanket and they didn’t make a sound…

Cat Picture That Has Nothing to Do With Anything
Two of our three cats sitting in windows enjoying the fresh coastal air. Galley is the old orange guy, Sir Duke is the new kitten. This is for you, Kris. (grin)

A 1973 Picture for Fun
In the lecture on Heinlein’s Rules, I talk about my writing years between 1975 and 1982. But frighteningly enough, I had a couple of professions before I took up writing while in architecture and then law school. I was an avid skier and golfer, but in 1971 I quit skiing and teaching skiing and went fully to golf, turning professional in 1972. Yeah, I know, hard to imagine me as a golf professional looking at the pictures at the top and side of this blog. But I was pretty good in those days. (I got worse every year for decades after those years. They were my peak.) I was what…
