    Great Dinner With Friends

These Old Friends Know Nothing About Writing… And it was a pleasure to sit for an entire dinner and never once mention writing or publishing.  I have sometimes wondered if I was capable of doing that. Seems I am. (grin) Tonight I also finished up the two cross-over days of online workshop assignments with September workshops ending and October first assignments starting. And last night I had some e-mail issues (left over from last week) that caused me to not get done until 5 this morning. Long night there. I have also done some picking for the stores over the last two days. And one of my friends had three…

Even I Am Overwhelmed With Good Stuff…

But Things Will Calm Down… First off, those letters and stuff from two of my posts making it to ThePassiveVoice.com sure stirred up the young-writer hornet’s nest. Fun letters and comments. Only had to hold back three insulting comments this time. And some very good points, well spoken, in the comments both here and on ThePassiveVoice.com. Worth reading. Thanks for the discussion, folks. It’s been fun. I am really overwhelmed at all the fun stuff happening at the moment. We announced our new coast workshops for the year, on the 18th a Branding SF Covers workshop will be starting, we have a brand new online workshop called Novel Structure starting…

    Anthology Workshop Surprise

I Was Surprised to Say the Least… Tonight I was doing a quick check of the upcoming coast workshops. We have the Master Business class here in a couple weeks, then the next up is the Anthology Workshop. That actually is the 24th of February to March 3rd. But the group list for the Anthology workshop will start in a week and the actual workshop starts at the end of November when the first writing assignments are sent out. Just over a month away. I had not looked at how many were signed up in a long time. My focus was elsewhere, to be honest, but tonight I discovered there…

Amazing Amount of Things Going On

A Crazy Week! One week ago we launched the Pulphouse Fiction Magazine Kickstarter. And within seven days not only did it fund, but it went past its second stretch goal. Wow. And you can get discount workshops through the Kickstarter, don’t forget. Then we also announced a new online workshop yesterday for November. Novel Structure. Taking sign-ups now. We also announced yesterday a new Covers Branding workshop for Science Fiction starting on the 18th and taught by Allyson Longueira. You get a template from that one for your books. Taking sign-ups for this one as well. It is not a normal monthly workshop. Information on both of those workshops in…

    NOVEL STRUCTURE WORKSHOP ANNOUNCED

Starting in November… NOVEL STRUCTURE Understanding the basic structure of a modern novel helps make writing novels so much easier and enjoyable. And each major genre has a structure that can be learned. And when you are writing between genres, understanding the basic structures of each genre’s novels will help you know where to put the book when finished. This is not a three-act structure or a hero’s journey structure or anything like that. This is real modern-fiction structures that readers come to expect in their books. This class will be full of techniques and awareness of how a form works. And more importantly, why a certain form works for…

One Time Science Fiction Cover Branding Workshop

BRANDING SCIENCE FICTION COVERS WORKSHOP… We did a form of this workshop back in May for four weeks that filled almost instantly and another one on Fantasy Covers in July that also filled. So Allyson had fun on both workshops and I didn’t get killed by the writers, so I talked Allyson into doing the workshop for branding a science fiction covers and series. Any type of science fiction. So here are the details… Allyson Longueira, the publisher of WMG Publishing has offered to design a cover and help brand a science fiction series for a limited number of writers. For those of you who don’t know her, Allyson is an award-winning…

    A Fun Day Once Again

Some Questions and Some Fun… Took most of the day off to play. And got into some warmth. Amazing how the long winter here is still affecting us. It felt great to go over to the valley with the 90 temps because here it was gray and 61. Normally I like the temperature. Just needed a touch of warmth today. And I got to do some picking. The really fun find this time was about 60 kids and young adult books for the store. $15 for all of them. Some Questions on Writing into the Dark workshop Mostly, the questions were around how much different this workshop will be than…
