Great Time at Writers of the Future

Home Saturday… I had a really fun week spending time with old friends and meeting a lot of young new writers. They all seemed very dedicated and very young and talented, which honestly makes me feel very positive for the future of writing in science fiction and fantasy. The event went off without a hitch, the food was amazing, and the gathering after I got out of my tux around the pool was a ton of fun. So if you are not submitting stories to this contest every quarter, you are missing the best thing you can do for your writing career. I was amazed at what some of these…

    Having Fun In Hollywood

Writer’s of the Future Event is great fun so far. Talking with a lot of old friends, enjoying talking with the younger professionals who want to talk with me. Today did a podcast that I will let you know when it airs, and Todd McCaffery and I tag-teamed a presentation on 2021 publishing business. Signed a zillion books at a table full of great friends and writers. Dave Farland, Tim Powers, Larry Niven, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Jody Lynn Nye, Nancy Kress,  Rebecca Moesta, Kevin Anderson, and others. Fun. Great meals including a lunch with John, the publisher of all this.  And drinks tonight sitting between Kevin Anderson and Nancy Kress.…

    Friday Night…

I Spent All Day At This Computer… And I have a blog streak that I have to maintain, no desire to be here after 12 hours here. I hope you are out enjoying some fun on a Friday night. I am going to finish this and go get a bowl of Cheetos (yes, I know, don’t judge me since it is Friday night and I am not out drinking) and sit and watch a bad hour of television and then pass out from a long day at a computer and too much fake cheese. However, I did start and finish, including doing a full wrap cover, a brand new holiday…

Walking Again And Not Attending 20Books..

Got Two 5K Runs This Saturday… One run in the morning, one run in the evening. I am a long ways from being in good enough shape and down enough weight to actually run both of them. But both are great charities and worth the support, so we are going to try it. I will do a bunch of walking. One is a Donny Osmond run, meaning he uses his name to support the charity. I actually talked with him a couple years back about a book I started to write for him that fell through thirty years ago. He didn’t remember and I would have been shocked if he…

    Sometimes Days Are Good…

Today Was a Good One… I spent the day first recording a writing class that will be part of the Kickstarter. A fun and challenging one. Then off to the grocery store to shop. Beautiful day, weather perfect, got some exercise as well. Back home to eat lunch, then hang some of the last art that needed hanging, then back up to my office to record another writing class that Kris and I had worked out. Cooked dinner for Kris when she got home, then watched a little Voice, then back to my office to do some writing on the new novel. Then watched some television with Kris, then back…

Three Kickstarters I Think Are Worth Supporting…

I Back A Lot of Kickstarters… In fact, as of today, I have backed 81 campaigns and done 20 on my own. Sometimes, if I back enough campaigns quick enough in a row, Kickstarter labels me a “superbacker” whatever that means. So on this Saturday night, I not only would suggest you back my newest campaign, Pulphouse Fiction Magazine 2021 Subscription Drive, but there are two others campaigns I think are fantastic and worth backing. First off, a nifty historical fantasy novel campaign for a book called A Wish Upon a Star by Kathryn Kaleigh. This campaign is just about a hundred bucks from funding with 4 days to go,…

    Recovered From Yesterday…

Almost… A two-nap day with a great lunch and a great dinner and a little too much television tonight. But I still managed two loads from the two condos we are cleaning out this weekend of what was left. A lot of art. Kris and I almost have all the art to the new place we think we are going to use. Now to get all the extra, plus all the stuff I would love to sell at some point out into the storage unit that me and the movers filled yesterday. 10 x 30 foot, all climate controlled. Sadly, we filled it. What I would love to sell is…

    Packing Boxes…

Movers Coming on Friday… And furniture and books and shelves are leaving two condos and going upstairs into one far larger condo. The thing is so large and has such spectacular views, we will have three living room sets of furniture. For two people. And my new office and Kris’s new office both have views hard to imagine. But we will suffer through. (grin) And on Friday, after the movers leave, the two boys from Promotion Central meet their new co-worker. She has been here in my office on the ground floor since she joined up and I can tell you that she is a love, a lap cat, and…

Moving My Internet and Writing Office

Down to Our Business Office… Yes, we have a condo on the top floor and we have a second office condo on the main floor that we use for a bunch of stuff, and maybe even live workshops when this craziness lifts a little more. (That was the plan for it when we got it two months ahead of the pandemic. Timing.) But I am also moving my writing and internet office down there tomorrow. (Actually started the process today.) Main reason is that it will give me a better chance, less distracted chance, to write more novels back at my old speed. And it will also help me control…

Starting to Sink In that I am Vaccinated!

And So Is Kris… I was actually vaccinated back in January and early February. I stood in line for four hours for the first shot, and five hours for the second. But there was no sign on the horizon that Kris was going to be vaccinated anytime soon at that point, so nothing changed at all for me.  I didn’t even give it a thought about changing anything. Basically, for the entire 14 months, there were entire days I would never leave the condo, or if I did it was to go down to our office on the ground floor of this same building. On really exciting days I went…
