Catalyst Game Labs Press Release…

Thought It Would Be Fun To See…

We do press releases at times for different things at WMG Publishing. They are not easy and you need a real reason to do one and also know who you are sending it to and why and how they will use it. It is an old art that is still being used fairly regularly, just not by indie writers much.

This is the press release that was also in the Catalyst newsletter that just went out, talking about the collaboration between Catalyst Game Labs and Kris.

Those of you who have been following the licensing stuff, this has been in the works for a couple years now in different forms. And contracts just got signed that makes both sides happy.

And yes, I said years. Those of you who get upset when an editor doesn’t respond on some magical timeline need to take a breath and realize that publishing and licensing takes time.

I got a hunch this is going to be a great collaboration between Kris and Catalyst on numbers of projects. So here is the press release they just sent out to a bunch of places and also over their newsletter. It has already shown up on icv2.com.

(The copy dulled their header and such…It was much brighter.)

Catalyst Game Labs Partners with Bestselling Author
Kristine Kathryn Rusch

Catalyst Game Labs—publisher of the seminal BattleTech and Shadowrun games—is excited to partner with bestselling author Kristine Kathryn Rusch to bring her fiction to life on gaming tables.

Rusch’s Diving Universe has been explored extensively in fiction, with 10 full novels and 15 novellas already published and more on the way. A far-future universe in which a quixotic salvage “diver” explores millennia’s worth of abandoned stations, lost ships, and the Boneyard—a dangerous area of space where hundreds of dangerous vessels are collected.

Diving Into The Wreck will be a cooperative push-your-luck Encounters game where you’ll dive into explorations as one of Rusch’s memorable characters. Players use a set of six dice to defeat a storyline of Challenge cards, hoping to discover deeper secrets as they go. Accrue and spend resources, watch each other’s back, and solve each phase in time to escape the final challenge.

“As a gamer myself, I’m thrilled to partner with Catalyst,” said Kristine Kathryn Rusch, author of the Diving series. “We’re doing our best to make sure the game reflects all the best elements of my Diving Universe.”

Early access to the Diving Into The Wreck game is available through the Kickstarter campaign Rusch is currently running for a new novel installment in the series, entitled The Return of Boss. The game is available as a stand-alone reward, an add-on, or added with fiction rewards. Included is access to the first Diving novella, for free! Catalyst will eventually host the Diving Universe novels and games on their web store.

“I’m very excited to work once again with Kristine Kathryn Rusch, a long-time friend and mentor, on what I hope will be the first of many game projects,” said Loren Coleman, Catalyst Game Labs’ owner. “Her worlds are always engaging, and her writing nothing short of amazing!”

Congratulations! And thank for putting that up here, Dean. I’ll be saving this for future reference.

News releases have their own structure and intent, different from sales copy, and its good to have an example done well, from someone whose work I know.

That’s right, a traditional press release hasn’t been on my radar for years! As for the game, I can’t wait for mine to arrive. I’ve been struggling with game design and am curious what the challenge cards will be!

It’s great when you post stuff like this. I’m looking forward to playing this game.
I also learn a lot and apply what I can to my jewelry business which I run on Etsy. Sales are slow, learning all the time. In addition to writing, when I got laid off in March I ramped that up as well.
    Great stuff!!
