Kris Has Four Original Collections in the New Kickstarter… As she said in her introduction to the Kickstarter (you can read it here… Three Fantasy Novels…), she is working on gathering up and putting in order all the Seavy County stories and novels. This new Kickstarter is focused on the three novels set in Seavy County, but she has been also writing different forms of short stories set there as well. She has now gathered them together in four collections. Winston and Ruby Covers.. Kris has not approved these covers yet, and they are for the stretch rewards in her new fantasy Seavy County Kickstarter. I flat love the Winston and Ruby series of stories set in Seavy County and making them the stretch rewards will be so much fun. Winston sort of has some magic, Ruby is the small black cat that runs the show. So tonight I got playing with covers for the stretch rewards and did these five covers, branded to Kris, of course. Some Cover Fun
At Least Fun For Me… I love doing covers for the short stories I put in my magazine Smith’s Monthly every month. I always put in four or five original short stories every month. This month there are four original stories, a collection with six stories, and a full novel. A decent issue. So thought I would share the covers with you. Since I use templates, these four covers took me about 90 minutes to do. (Most time finding the art that fit.) They are all for original short stories. Cover Fun For #49
Five Short Stories in The May Issue… So figured I would do the covers tonight. Started around 11 pm and finished about 1 am. Two hours. And it would have been faster than that but got held up on a couple pieces of art. Anyone who does covers knows that finding the art is the most time consuming part of all this, especially when I have a template like I do, and all the stories this issue fit in the template. Smith’s Monthly Magazine Covers
Doing Paperback Layout for #48 Yesterday and Tonight… That is the April Issue. So I had to do a cover for #49, the May issue, because, you know, coming-next-month kind of thing. #49 is the May issue and I still haven’t figured out what I am doing for #50. But got some fun ideas. #49 issue will have the full novel Bottom Pair: A Cold Poker Gang Novel. Some Short Story Covers
Just Having Fun Tonight… Yes, I will do a wrap-up of the 15 days of tracking time, but next week. I want to do something else now. So since I am laying out the paper edition of Smith’s Monthly #47 that will be out in a week or so, I had to do the covers for the five original short stories in the volume. And since I was still in a keeping track of time mode from the challenge, I can tell you that including finding the art, these five covers took exactly 1 hour and 45 minutes with InDesign. Actually Started Interior Layout on Smith’s Monthly #45… Ran into a few problems that I will solve tomorrow with a little help. But minor. The real issue is going to be getting all the ads and such I do throughout the book for my own books, rebuilding a lot of them, making sure the art is linked, and so on.
