    Post Just For Readers

Books In The Return of the Fey Kickstarter Campaign… Wow, are there a lot of books for readers in The Return of the Fey Kickstarter Campaign. To start off with, everyone who backs the campaign at the $5 level and above will get a copy of the brand new Fey Novella that Kris will write to get herself back writing Fey novels. She explains it all in the video. It is at the bottom of this post. Then if you backed the reward at the $30 level, (or added it to another reward) you would get all seven books of the Fey in electronic editions. And there is also a…

    Working On A Story…

Watching a Couple of Movies… So I am behind on email and will get caught up tomorrow after we do a 5k charity run. My feet are back healthy as they will ever be, so it will feel good to be back out. Plus we had two charity runs scheduled for tomorrow, but one was forced virtual. The one we are doing has groups of 25 going off (spaced out) every thirty minutes. Masks required and gladly worn. I am sure there will be pictures. I’m going to use tomorrow to ramp back up my amount of steps per day. I am doing a bit of muscle work as well,…

    Two Bundles With StoryBundle.com

I Have Stuff in Two Different Storybundles Right Now… In the Adventure SF bundle I actually have a Thunder Mountain novel, a collection I edited, and  the cover story in Writers of the Future #35. How fun is that? And the bundle is ending in just over a day!!! So don’t miss this one, for no other reason than to get Snot-Nosed Aliens Anthology from Pulphouse. Stories in there are as fun as they sound. And a Thunder Mountain novel from me and a Retrieval Artist novel from Kris. And, oh yeah, a bunch of other great sf writers like Kevin J. Anderson and Rick Wilber to name just two.…

The New World of Publishing: The Seasons of Publishing

I’ve been resisting doing this article because of a host of factors. But with the last pricing article, it became clear that I needed to at least say something about this topic. Why would I hesitate at such a simple and obvious topic? For that very reason. It just seems too simple and obvious to me to spend time talking about. Then someone (my wife, Kristine Kathryn Rusch) reminded me I had been living inside of publishing since 1975 and what was obvious to me wasn’t to most people. And most indie publishers are not seasoned veterans of publishing, but new writers coming in. As she said so clearly to…

The New World of Publishing: Some Real Perspective on Pricing

After all the comments on the last post about electronic pricing, it became very, very clear to me that indie fiction writers seem to think that pricing an electronic book is done in a vacuum. They just make up some number that feels right or is what they heard and then stick to that price without any thought of customers or history of publishing or what anyone else in publishing is doing. And most importantly, writers give almost no thought to the perception of the buyers. The decision is often made on pricing because it’s what the writer likes, or how the writer personally buys, or what the writer can…
