    Next Chapter Will Be Coming

Right Now I Am Having Fun Writing… I will get to the next chapter of Wet Blanket Reality about traditional publishing next week. The next chapter is all the things you have to do to get an agent. That will be a fun one, I promise. Also today I got forwarded a link to an article that might be right up there with the most stupid article I have ever read about publishing. All stuff that I am pointing out as really bad and stupid, this article manages to turn it into positive to help writers. I just read it with my mouth open and thinking about how writers trapped…

The Wet Blanket Reality… Chapter One

Chapter One… Manuscript Must Be Perfect Writers who believe in the myth of traditional publishing also believe deeply in the myth that rewriting is good and that a manuscript must be perfect before you dare send it off to an agent. Perfect, I say!!  Perfect! (I have never in my 40 plus years in publishing ever seen a perfect manuscript.) So what happens is that years and years pass while the writer “Works on their book.” Okay, come on, we all know a number of these writers spending years “working on their book.” And sadly, these writers are proud they are doing that and they will be glad to tell…

    Ground Effect

With Writing… Basically, ground effect with airplanes is a feeling that the plane pushes away from the ground as it gets closer, can just float over the ground once it is in the air. It has a lot of technical stuff about what causes it, but I don’t really care. What I am talking about is that feeling that it is easier to keep writing day after day when you have been writing day after day. In other words, easier to keep the writing aloft than stop and then have to restart. Stay floating over the runway instead of letting the wheels hit and coasting to a stop. A ton…

    Surveys Out for Kickstarter

Very Quickly This Time… The surveys were sent out today for the Spade/Paladin Kickstarter campaign. If you didn’t get one… — First check your spam filter. — If not there, check your other email address in case you used that for Kickstarter. — If not there, just hold on until Monday. Subscriptions@wmgbooks.com ON ANOTHER MATTER… Today I managed to get another 4,000…

    Sometimes Days Are Good…

Today Was a Good One… I spent the day first recording a writing class that will be part of the Kickstarter. A fun and challenging one. Then off to the grocery store to shop. Beautiful day, weather perfect, got some exercise as well. Back home to eat lunch, then hang some of the last art that needed hanging, then back up to my office to record another writing class that Kris and I had worked out. Cooked dinner for Kris when she got home, then watched a little Voice, then back to my office to do some writing on the new novel. Then watched some television with Kris, then back…

    Some Pop-Up Descriptions

A Deeper Description… Although some of the Pop-Ups that we are working through on the most recent Kickstarter are fairly clear. Or I thought they were, but I guess I was wrong considering some of the questions I have gotten in the last few days. So over the next week or so I’ll talk a little about what these are about and why we picked them. The first one that every backer of the Kickstarter campaign will get without charge is the Pop-Up How to Make Your Red Herrings Invisible. Now in fiction, a red herring is something you write that is meant to distract from the real plot line…

    Come Looking For Anger

Trolls Are Everywhere… But seems for me, they have to come looking. The reason is that I just ignore them and eventually, because they are starved for attention, they go away. Now, I know clearly that my opinions of professional fiction writing are only based on how it is really done, not on how some beginning writers think it should be done. I actually write and publish and make a lot of money, and that just pisses off a large part of the younger writers as well. But if a person doesn’t want to hear how it is really done, they tend to stay away from this blog and anything…
