A Regular Sunday
A Regular Sunday Writers meeting with just a few writers today until after four, then I headed out for a walk with a half mile of running in the middle, then back to the office to work on workshop stuff until time to go home at 7:30 to nap and then cook dinner. Spent the evening on workshops and other things, then watched a bunch of television. Slowly feeling more rested. ——————– New Workshop and New Schedule As I said last night, a number of people have used the reward for supporting the Fiction River Kickstarter drive to buy workshops from November forward, so I wanted to get more choices up. So now…

New Workshop: Point of View
POINT OF VIEW Understanding every detail about how to use a character point of view. Most writers will think, “I don’t need this. I know Point of View. It’s not hard.” And yet most of those writers still work under their old beliefs and learning they got from non-writers like English teachers. The truth simply put: Most fiction writers know little or nothing about the power of viewpoint. As with the Speed workshop, this area Kris and I have avoided for two reasons. First, we don’t believe many will sign up for it, believing writers think they know it all about viewpoint. Second, this is such an advanced technique area, it…

More Running but No Writing
More Running but No Writing Again today I spent most of my writing time working on workshop stuff. But in the middle of the day, Kris and I went out for a run. (She did all the running, actually) but I went along for a long walk (6 miles today) and one mile of that I also ran. I managed to run three quarter-mile legs with walking between, then three 1/8th mile legs with walking between. So today six miles total, one mile of which was running. I’ll take it because it felt like I can do this for the very first time. New Workshop and New Schedule Since a number…

Working On Workshops
Working On Workshops Didn’t do much today except spend a bunch of time working on online workshops. I want to have the January and February online workshop schedule announced for those taking the workshop option in the Kickstarter subscription drive for Fiction River. (Option for one workshop or three workshops starting from November forward.) And also we are going to be adding in one more new workshop this fall, in October, the last one for the fall. Basically, the new workshops will be called Point of View and will be how to use them correctly, when, and how to use viewpoints to your best advantage, and so much more. Viewpoint is…

Star Trek… Fifty Years
Star Trek: Fifty Years Couldn’t let this day go by without a comment or two, since I wrote so many Star Trek books and edited it over the years as well. I was a sophomore in high school in Boise, Idaho, fifty years ago and was home that night to watch that first show that first Thursday night. We had just bought our first color television. And I was hooked. Instantly. And for the next three years I watched every show I could, including during my senior year going home on a Friday night to watch Trek. Yeah, I had that good a social life. (grin) It never once occurred…

Halfway Through
Halfway Through the Kickstarter Stunning that we are halfway through and doing so well. Two things happened today with the Fiction River subscription Kickstarter campaign. First, Kickstarter, without our asking or anything else, picked the campaign as One They Love. Notice the heart on the widget to the right? A wonderful endorsement by the web site. Thanks! And secondly, we have 100 wonderful people who have supported the subscription drive. Wow, just wow. Thank you, one and all! Just can’t say that enough. Now we are really hoping to get to the third stretch goal because that is a project we all are excited about and would be a wonderful…

Started New Novel
Started New Novel I didn’t get very far because, to be honest, just didn’t feel much like doing anything tonight. But got it started, so maybe tomorrow I will get going. It will be the second novel in the Seeders Universe in a row. This one will be called Starburst. Otherwise, a day of meetings and got my walking in and cooked dinner and watched far too much television. And I did a bunch of workshop stuff as well. October Workshops Click the workshop tab above for description and sign-up or go to www.wmgpublishingworkshops.com. Questions about any of the workshops, feel free to write me. All have openings. And wow, this is a…

A Little More Running
A Little More Running A very busy day today, as was expected after a long weekend. And from all the people I ran into in the banks and post office, I wasn’t the only one having a busy day. But still managed, even though it was raining a little, to meet Kris at the lower parking garage for the mall and do some running and walking while she ran the entire time. She’s way ahead of me on this running thing. Way, way ahead. And a lot smarter about it as well. I am down 17 pounds from July 1st, but still too heavy to push the running too…
