    Workshop Curriculum

Workshop Curriculum 9/19/2016 I’m going to divide these down into areas of study. And the numbers are my suggestions on the order to take these workshops because many of them build on others. FOUNDATION COURSES 1… Depth 2… Advanced Depth (Depth required) 3… Plotting with Depth (Depth required) 4… Teams (Depth suggested to help) 5… Advanced Character and Dialog 6… Point of View (Depth suggested) 7… Author Voice (Depth suggested strongly, as well as Advanced Depth) 8… Pacing 9… Cliffhanger These nine workshops will jump you so far ahead in your writing skills, you won’t be able to see it, but your friends and readers will. And I know, interesting that Teams workshop…

    Some Fantastic Writing Books!

Writing Bundle Folks, there is a new writing bundle that just started with ten writing books. Two are mine. Another by Kris, another by Lawrence Block, another by Gerald Weinberg, another by JoAnna Penn, and so on. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one. I’ve read all but two of these books and trust me, they are worth a lot more than what you would pay in this bundle. Those of you who want to learn, this is the cheapest education you can get from people who know what they are talking about. The Write Stuff 2016 Bundle Here is Kris’s blog about the bundle: The Write Stuff…

Editing and Reading Observations… Part 9…

Bad Choices by the Writer… In previous parts of this series, I have been talking about why I will stop reading a story. I have mostly focused on craft issues in the telling of the story. Craft issues can be solved with learning and study and putting a lot of words through your fingers (combined at the same time with the learning and study). But for this part, I want to talk about the lack of understanding by the reader of two major elements of commercial fiction… 1…THERE ARE READERS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORDS… In the early stages of writing, writers only focus on the words and…

    Value of IP…

Most Writers Never Think of This… But again most writers don’t understand copyright, which is a form of Intellectual Property (IP). Now some writers understand that anything they write has value, although I must admit it takes early stage writers a period of time to get past their egos and their false assumptions that they know what is good or bad in their own work. Interestingly enough, value of IP doesn’t much care about quality, at least in the early stages. Also 90% of all writers I have talked to have zero understanding that the work product they create around a book or story also has IP connected with it…

Sale Information, Romance Study Along Reading List, and More Covers…

First, Two New Covers… (Cat Picture at End of Post) I have to not only do the cover for #50 (coming out in a week or so) but I also have to do the cover for #51. Not only is the cover for #51 on the back cover, but it has a number of ads in the interior. The novel in #51 will be a new Thunder Mountain novel called Green Valley. I just did both of these tonight in this form. #50 I did the full spread as well. So here they are. Amazing how different the covers are from issue to issue. I love that, to be honest.…

    More On The Last Sale

GOT SOME QUESTIONS…. So figured I would answer them here and then repost the first post on the sale from last night. Question #1… What happened to the Master Business Class? It is the only thing we are starting that is not in the sale because that would not be fair to all of those who paid full price for the in-person workshop that has now become that. The Master Business Class will come back after the sale and will start in July. Question #2… Does this sale apply to the lifetime subscriptions?  Yes, it does, to all three. Lifetime Subscription to Workshops, to Lectures, and to Study Alongs. Question…

    Regular and Classic Workshops

These Are All Available in the Sale Since yesterday I talked a little about the really fun collections classes, today I thought I would list the regular workshops that are starting in May and June that are available to sign up for in the sale. Both months of classes include the brand new six-week workshop STAGES OF A PUBLISHER. (It is in the Lifetime Subscription for those who have or buy that.) NOTE: The next regular workshop to be launched is called: Fear Based Decision Making. You can not believe how many bad decisions writers make because of fear. Going to be a very important workshop as Kris and I…

Ideas On My Lists for Pop-Up and Workshops…

I Have A List… Actually two lists, tacked on my computer with thoughts of “That would make an interesting Pop-Up” and the second list is possible workshops. Thought I might share a few of the residents of those lists here. Comments are welcome, but be nice. Remember, it is only your opinion and someone else may really love the idea or hate it. And saying you like it does not commit you to taking anything. Kris and I are always looking for more ideas if you got something that you think would be a good idea for writers to study or learn or that you want to study or learn.…

What Numbers You Need To Know

What Numbers You Need To Know A couple nights ago I did a blog about results addiction, the career-killing problem of watching numbers too much and other aspects of that addiction. I got a number of questions about what numbers are needed in an indie career, so below I’ll give you my opinion on a way to be a good business person without being addicted to numbers and taking those numbers into your writing. —— The New Workshops I was not clear on one thing last night about the workshops. The new workshop Plotting with Depth is now on the schedule through March. The older workshop we are bringing back,…
