Some Ideas I Think Might Be Ripe

This Is Just A Fun Thought Experiment… But I think that some ideas in publishing that have been around for a time and not gotten much traction might be nearing time-is-right place. Just my opinions, and I am sure I am missing a ton of other close, but not ready yet, things. But here are three to think about that I personally think are close. Idea One… Gift Cards for Books Now back in 2011, we did a couple books on credit-card-like cards with a code on the back to download the book. In essence the idea was to give a physical form to electronic books. We mounted the books…

    Looking at An Old Post

New Year Making Me Look Back… Plus I was cleaning up things, killing some old posts, and I ran across this post that was originally called “The Death of an Indie Writer.” How’s that for click bait? (grin) I wrote it in July 2011, way back in the start of all this craziness. And frighteningly enough, I was right on almost all of it and I am still seeing this same thing today, even though most new writers coming in have lots of information and this new world is pretty stable. That doesn’t seem to be helping. So here is the long post, updated only slightly to 2017. I thought…

    The Magic Bakery: Chapter Seven

Chapter Seven… I knew I was going to need to talk about this topic in a chapter and honestly, have dreaded it. Writers, especially newer writers have no understanding of the value of their own work and how others value it. So with that problem in mind, I am going to try to add a level of understanding of value of copyright to this book. For most of you, I will fail at this, but at least I can say I tried right here in Chapter Seven. I’m calling this chapter “Perceived Value” of the inventory in the Magic Bakery. I cannot even begin to count the hundreds and hundreds of…

    The Battle of the Restart

Great bundle with two of my books in it. And a wonderful book by Lawrence Block and a great book by Kris.  Don’t miss it. http:/storybundle.com/writing       The Battle of the Restart Back writing. So easy to say, so difficult to do for almost all of us after a layoff. I am no different. Annoyingly so. More in the Topic of the Night post above. ————- The Day Managed to get to the WMG offices and the new store around 2 p.m., after nine hours of sleep. I think I needed that. Ran a bunch of errands, including my third trip to the sign shop to pick up…

    A Complete Store Day

A Complete Store Day From the moment I got out of the house until I got home at midnight (I ate lunch and dinner up at the store), I worked on the new store (except for a short trip out to our original store to pick stuff up). Turned out to be about 11 hours straight. I will show pictures of the store when we open on Wednesday. But below is one of me on a ladder working to put up one of our temporary signs. (Our nice wooden signs won’t be in for about a month. There will be five of them on the front of the huge building.) To give…
