Challenge,  On Writing

The Fresh Start Challenge With Kris…

A Challenge with Kris for the Month of January…

The challenge is to write as many consumable words from Monday, January 1st through Wednesday, January 31st 2024 as Kris writes. The goal is to get writing and focused on the writing for the month of January.

What are “consumable” words?

— Any fiction of any type (no requirement to publish during the challenge time)

— Any nonfiction that others will consume such as blogs, introductions to collections things like that.

You can NOT count emails and comments on Facebook and other social media or comments on blogs. They do NOT count.

No genre limitations.

Rules

1… Every day Kris will send a letter through the class email system to just those in the challenge talking about the words she wrote the previous day and her experience. There will be a running count on the class of Kris’s total words. Every week Dean will do a video updating everyone as well, but it is the daily letters from Kris that are the best parts.

She will not talk about the content of what she is writing. And neither should you.

2… The cost is $300. You must sign up by Wednesday, January 3rd in the morning.

(No credit from anything, I am afraid. Can’t buy in with credit to get more credit.)

3… If you do NOT write as many words as she does during the month, you get $300 credit toward any online teaching, such as Pop-Up series or lectures or classics or lifetime workshops.

So in essence, you are buying at least $300 credit and getting the chance to watch Kris and see how you stack up against her writing output.

4… If you beat Kris’s word count at the end of the month, you get $600 in credit for anything on Teachable to be used at any point for anything in the future (except other challenges.)

Again, Kris will report each day about her previous day’s writing through the email program in the Teachable class, but only to those in the challenge.

5… On February 1st you will report to Dean your word count in January to get your credit.

Kris is excited to do this. She really has enjoyed the two week challenge at the end of the year and would like to keep herself focused for another month to really put 2023 in the rear-view mirror.

This is a win/win/win challenge. Jump in, should be fun and get your writing fired up for the new year! And you get an up-close look at how Kris writes on a daily basis.

OTHER CHALLENGES AVAILABLE…

Dean Challenge Full and Half 2024

The Great Dean Challenge was to write more consumable words from April 1st 2023 to December 31st 2023 than Dean. Dean got off to a slow start and just as he was picking up speed into the last three months, he fell while running a 5K run and smashed his shoulder. He now has a new Titanium shoulder and will be getting back to writing in 2024.

So a lot writers beat him in that first challenge and he would like a year-long rematch in 2024. That’s what this challenge is all about. Can you produce as many words as Dean in 2024. Remember, Dean is still in PT for his shoulder and will turn 74.

What are “consumable” words?

— Any fiction of any type (no requirement to publish during the challenge time)

— Any nonfiction that others will consume such as blogs, introductions to collections things like that.

— emails and comments on Facebook or blogs do NOT count.

No genre limitations.

Rules of Turn-In

1… Every month (or more often if it helps you) you must send me an email giving me your word count. I do not want to know what you are writing, just how much.

The cost is $600 for the Full Challenge, $300 for the half.

(No credit from anything, I am afraid. Can’t buy in with credit to get more credit.)

If you miss and give up at any point, or do not beat me at the end of the year, you get $600 credit (or $300 for the half) toward any online teaching, such as Pop-Up series or lectures or classics or lifetime workshops.

So in essence, you are buying credit for learning after the challenge is over.

If you beat my word count (or come within 20,000 words of it (10,000 for half) by the end of the year, you get your choice of any Lifetime Subscription WMG Publishing has to offer for the full challenge. (except the Everything Subscription.) For Half you get $600 in credit.

You also get a BEAUTIFUL TROPHY AWARD. This trophy is a hand-blown glass float from the Oregon Coast. (Photo by Travel Oregon.)

My Side…

I will do a weekly (or at least regular) video here giving you my word count, as well as post it on my blog on the right side. I will also do some motivational videos at times just for fun. Not every week, but as things come up.

So, in Summary…

The Dean Challenge 2024 Full is you writing more than I will write in consumable words for the year of 2024. (Half is you writing half of what I do.)

— Cost is $600 for full. (The $600 gets you that much credit for anything on Teachable if I win. If you write more than me after a year, you get a Lifetime Subscription of your choice.)

— Cost is $300 for half. (You get $300 credit for anything on Teachable if I win. You win, you get $600 credit.)

And if you beat Dean’s word count, you also get a beautiful hand-blown glass float we call the BEAUTIFUL TROPHY AWARD.

This is a win/win/win challenge. Jump in, should be great fun!

Not sure why I thought taking the first Kris challenge during the last two weeks of the year (when I knew I’d have a houseful of guests for most of that time) would be at all productive. I did okay, but nowhere near close to meeting my own goals, much less keeping up with her!
Still, I did read and review my way back into the current project, which I’d had to set aside due to life rolls earlier in the year, and now I’m back on track, which is a very good thing, so it wasn’t a totally wasted exercise.
Thinking about trying it again, with her January challenge… 🙂
