    Kris On The Findaway Scam…

A Guest Post… A few weeks or so back, Kris did a post on her patreon page about what happened with Findaway and writers. I linked to it, but now she gave me permission to put it here to help writers understand another level of business. The Fallacy of the Findaway “Victory” Kristine Kathryn Rusch I do not know how to start this piece without using insulting language. I have literally deleted five first paragraphs which use the words “ignorant,” “stupid,” “dumb,” and certain swear words that should not be attached to people and organizations. I can’t write this without using one of those words. Insert the one that offends…

    Deductions

Paying Attention to Your Taxes? If, in the best world (which I must admit almost no writers live in), you would have already figured your income for 2021 from your writing and the expenses you can take that income down to make sure you don’t pay taxes. Yeah, and cows can fly. But that is the right way to do it, and honestly, except for 2020, I come close each year to knowing exactly what WMG Publishing made and our tax situation by the last week of the month. I don’t have it to the penny, but I know. (Let’s just say that 2020 surprised me on the income to…

    More Organization

We’re Having a Sale… Everything on WMG Publishing Teachable site, including Lifetime Subscriptions and challenges, is half price. Simply hit purchase, then put in the code word… SummerSchoolSale and you will get what you want at half price. Lasts only until July 7th at 5 pm West Coast Time. While that is going on, I thought I would spend some days trying to give order to all the massive number of workshops, classic workshops, lectures, classes, and Pop-Ups we have. And the order I am trying to get this all into I decided to sort by areas of learning. So two nights ago I listed the top twenty workshops to…

Refusing to Go to Bed Before Midnight…

On a Friday Night… But it will be close. I’m tired from a day that I don’t much remember, and I’m getting up early tomorrow to go out into the wilds of Las Vegas grocery stores. I get in with all the old folks because the fact is that I am an old folk. Less crowded and old folks, for the most part, tend to be more careful. And they move slower so I can dodge them easier. And the store shelves are stocked. Just amazing seeing Las Vegas on a Friday night now. We used to be able to stand on our balcony and see downtown Vegas and hear…

    Some Questions About Master Class

Got Three Major Questions… — A number of people asked if they paid now for the last Master Business Class to hold their spot and something happened and they couldn’t make it, what would be the policy on the money. Basically, it is fully refundable or transferable up to one month ahead of the workshop, then if within one month and you cancel it is only transferable. We all have life events, so that’s what we can do. — Who will be teaching next year? Well, we have talked with a number of instructors and later this spring will start putting the staff of instructors together. But you can see…

    Interesting Discussion

Strangely Enough, With a Book Agent… Civil as I could keep it on my side. Honest, I was a good boy, for the most part. But my normal blunt self. (And no, I will not tell you who I had the discussion with.) Something came from this discussion that I thought I had better remind folks about here. If you have a friend who is looking at a book agent, ask these questions of that friend… One… Have you done a credit check on the agent? Two… Will the agent automatically, for all clients, split payments from all publishers, meaning the publisher sends out two checks and two sets of…

    Anthology Workshop Firing Up

Starts Friday and Goes to Wednesday Morning… Going to be a blast, I can tell you that right now. About fifty writers, about forty-some stories per anthology for eight different anthologies, plus some surprises as we always do. Wonderful fun. And for the first year in years, I am done with my reading ahead of the workshop. I am shocked, I say, shocked… We have announced next year’s anthology workshop, but don’t wait too long to sign up. We limit this to 50 writers at most and each year it fills completely. And you start writing at the end of November for next year’s class. If interested in next year’s,…

In-Person Workshops Moving to Las Vegas!!!

Starting in October… That’s right, after this summer Series Workshop here in Lincoln City, all “coast workshops” will be held in Las Vegas. That’s right, after almost twenty years here (first was in 1999), we are graduating the in-person workshops up to the next level. I will be writing those signed up for the two workshops coming up, the Business Master Class in October and the Anthology Workshop in early March to confirm if you still want to attend or not. Or you can contact me. Either way is fine.  There are slight changes to format and schedule which will make this better for everyone. (We talked to a lot…
