Anthropic Settlement
Judge Ruled On Monday… This is what is called the Final Settlement. There is still a ways to go before checks start hitting the mails, but this is a huge step closer. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, Anthropic must pay 1.5 Billion to authors who they stole work from to train their AI. It is not a bad settlement, especially for those of us who have been prolific and had copyrights registered. We shall see. Anthropic Day…
Today I Set Aside to Submit Anthropic Claims… Unbelievably mind-numbing. I did one three-hour session to do the easy ones this afternoon. Then another two-hour session to finish those up and do some of the more difficult one. The three more hours tonight all difficult ones. I got 47 total titles submitted and I have a hunch I will find another 15 or 20 in this coming week to do one more submission before the deadline. Kris has in about 70 titles already claimed and I found another 15 for her tonight and she had a bunch she had already found. We should be north of 150 titles claimed. Better…

An Anthropic Day…
Actually… Overwhelming and Fun I spent most of my business computer hours today looking through books I have published and seeing if they are on the Anthropic database of books included in the settlement. To be included, the copyright on the book had to be registered before a certain date and then the book had to have been found by Anthropic on a pirate site so they could take it and use it to train an AI. In other words, not only did they steal author’s work, but they stole them from a pirate site. Pure class act, along with all the other thieves who stole books and art and…
