    Kris’s New Writing Challenge…

Starts Tomorrow (Wednesday) Runs from August 15th to September 30th. Every night those signed up get a letter from Kris talking about her day and writing and reporting her word count.  Turns out it is great fun to follow along and I live here. (grin) Kris is doing these to stay focused on her writing as we wade through a bunch of crap in the business and since this is the third one, she says they are working. From her word count in the one ending today, I would say so. If you sign up for the $300 fee and can’t match her word count, you get the $300 in…

  • Challenge,  Kickstarter Campaign

    Kickstarter Fun…

Kickstarter and Fiction… One of the main topics after hours and at dinners at the Anthology Workshop this last week was Kickstarter. That sort of makes sense since Loren L. Coleman was there and I was there. Loren did a 10 million dollar Kickstarter and I have done 42 of them now. There were a number of writers attending who had done varying sizes of campaigns along the way as well, so it was a popular topic for the week. So for fun here on my blog, as I get back in and revamp the Kickstarter Best Practices to update it some with Loren’s help over this next month, I…

    Kris New Writing Challenge

Kris New Writing Challenge Starts August 15th… And runs through September 30th. The one she is doing now ends on the 14th, just a few days away. Every night she talks about her day writing or not writing as the case may be in an email to everyone signed up. And if you don’t match her word count, you get what you paid in credit and if you beat her word count, you get double that amount in credit. (Lifetime Everything Subscribers, write me for the code.) I find it interesting to read her posts every night and I live with her. So motivational, fun, and learning. Don’t miss signing…

    The Fun Of In-Person Workshops…

And Sometimes Writer’s Conferences… Since it has been over four-and-a-half years since we have done an Anthology Workshop, I had forgotten one of the things I loved the most about them. The brainstorming and idea exchanging that goes on all the way through. Morning, afternoon, and into the night. In fact, late on Wednesday evening in the conference suite where we all got together after hours to talk, I was told about something one writer was doing and wow did that hit me. I’ve been looking for a new challenge for my fiction writing, something to drive me to the writing computer every day and get my pace back up…

Last Day of the Anthology Workshop…

Bummed the Next One Is Two Full Years Away… This was so much fun, as much as I remember them being. And we got six new Fiction River volumes out of it, plus I bought eight stories for Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. Over 2025 we will be rebranding all of the Fiction River volumes, plus publishing these new six, so that will be exciting. Wow were there a lot of great stories. Now I need sleep, a full night’s sleep if possible.

    Day Three of Anthology Workshop

A Ton of Great Reading… And some fantastic brainstorming with other writers. Great food, planning for the future, and fun. I can’t believe it has been over four years since we did the last one of these. I am already looking forward to the 2026 one. Now to get a few hours of sleep so I can make it through the last few hours tomorrow.

    Day One of Anthology Workshop…

Really Fun! And I even managed to buy two stories for Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. I actually wanted to buy five, but the editors of the anthologies had first choice and they wanted the stories for their Fiction River anthologies. But I am happy to get two great stories. And ended up in some great conversations on writing and kickstarters. So much fun. So I have some work to do before I go try to get some sleep and fire into day two. Night…
