    Five Months Ago…

We Did “The Last Sale” in October, 2022… That’s right, that was five months ago… Since then we have played with a small sale only for lifetime supporters, another sale to see who would open their mail from Teachable, and one more short fun sale to see who read to the bottom of one of the posts on my site. But the monthly big sales were over last October. And they still are. But a bunch of factors have come together to suggest we should do a surprise half-price sale right now. So we are using the code: Surprise Just hit purchase on anything on WMG Teachable and then on…

    Got Up Very Early…

Halfway Through My Night, Actually… To go with Kris as she ran, biked, and swam in a Reverse Triathlon. She started off with a 5K run, then did 10K on a bike, and then 300 yards of swimming. I was her support staff, to hold her stuff, get her water and such and help her through the transitions. She completed it and did fantastic! She is flat amazing. Read her post on Facebook about how life conspired against her on the training and she still showed up and finished. I often get questions about what it takes to become a long-term, full-time fiction writer. My answer is never quit, and…

An Adventure In My Own Fiction…

Being Prolific… This is kind of sad, actually. I have a clear memory of writing a story. Not sure if it became part of a novel or not, not 100 % sure of what series it was in. But I remember writing the story. And I wanted that story for a specific reason tonight. Yes, I have spreadsheets full of stories and all my indie published novels are out in different places. But spread sheets just give me titles and series and such. And just for Smith’s Monthly alone, there are almost 300 stories on that spread sheet. And I have a lot of unpublished short stories that got delayed…

    Kickstarter Campaign

Only Six Days Left! Yup, we did this small campaign and set it for just nine days. As many of you know, we did two medium-sized campaigns in January and February, and we had to push back another medium-sized campaign for a scheduling reason. And we had always wanted to try a small campaign, and this one seemed perfect for a short turn in the mix. Since because of my eye issues (90% cleared) I have not finished a new book in the last four months, and almost no one knows about all my writing in the first place. So we figured a small campaign like this would at least…

    Branding

To Genre… There are a lot of elements to branding in fiction, so much so that we are thinking of doing an entire six week regular workshop on the topic. (Let me know if interested. No requirement to take it.) Branding becomes critical not only the in basics like genre covers, but in so much more, such as licensing, trademarks, and overall value of a book or series, let alone its sales and licensing. And wow are there a lot of elements that go into branding in fiction. (Six weeks worth easy.) Most writers I’ve talked to tell me they understand branding, but as I stare at just their covers,…

    Workshops in Kickstarter

FIVE SPECIALS… They were from earlier Kickstarters and have not been for sale and never will be outside a kickstarter campaign. So since this is for ten of my book series, (Dean Wesley Smith Starter Kit) we went looking for some old special workshops that fit some of my series. And we found five that you may have missed when they went by over the last five years. So here is the write-up about them from the campaign… —- The ones we brought back are the ones that fit with one or more of my series in the Starter Kit. You can get your choice of one, two, three, four,…

    Kickstarter is Live!!!

And Fun for Me!! You can see it at DEAN WESLEY SMITH Starter Kit.  All kinds of my books, some great special workshops coming back from other Kickstarters (You get a choice if you missed one before) and some fun stretch rewards, including a brand new lecture series. And I was going to add the challenge there as well, but alas it breaks Kickstarter Rules. Sorry. And take a look at the branding. I’ll talk about it later. Only ten days on this one, so really tight turn. Don’t miss it.

    More On Dean Challenges

Some Great Questions This Weekend… Main question is that if I go past a million words, does that mean anyone in the challenge must as well? Nope. If I write past a million words (love how you guys are worried about that while I am worried with the eyes of just getting close to that number), the challenge is capped at one million. So the full folks need to write that much, the half need to write 500,000 words. If I do 800,000 words, that is the mark for the full and 400,000 is for the half. I will be reporting every week on both challenges with a video. Every…
