Novel One: Day Six

Almost Done…

(As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.)

The Day Went Like This…

Did about an hour of e-mail and then got out the door a little after 3 p.m. I did some business errands and then got to the WMG offices around 3:30. At a little after four, I headed out for a walk with Matt and didn’t end up getting back to the office until almost 5:30.

And yes, I hit my 11,000 steps yet again today.

I worked at the office for two hours, then groceries, home, a quick nap, cook dinner, and get in here to do more business stuff and reading on the challenge stories and novels.

I had a thought I might finish the novel tonight, so cut the reading short and went to work at 11:30 p.m.

Writing…

Well, the idea of finishing got tossed when I was going along and my creative voice said, “You need to do this to really make this a good one.”

The thing it wanted me to do was add in one simple change in one character, but to do that, I had to cycle all the way back to the third chapter and come through the book again. I hate that, but I did it, adding in that one major detail that sometimes took a bunch of words.

So by 12:30 a.m. I had added 800 words. Took a short break.

Then another 900 words by 1:15 a.m. I was through the big cycle. Thankfully.

After a short break, the next session I managed 1,100 words by 2;30 a.m.

Short break and 1,000 words by 3:30 a.m.

Another detail cropped up, another cycle back about ten chapters to fix that flow. (Doing time travel Thunder Mountain novels is very complex when it comes to time and dates.) No new words for a full hour.

Break and 900 words by 4:45 a.m.

A quick walk around the living room to stretch, then I managed 1,400 words by 5:45 a.m.

The ending is close. So tomorrow I should get more challenge reading done and I will have this book done one day ahead of my schedule time. (I gave myself eight days on this one. Sunday was my deadline.)

6,100 words of fiction total for the night in seven sessions. Thank heavens I started early tonight.

Thanks, Harvey. Was letting the big mystery bundle finish before giving those two a push. I really love bundles.

Tomorrow (for me, not sure where everyone who reads this is on the globe!) Dean will post his 7th update for the book.

Start a 9 day vacation tomorrow and have challenged myself to beat his word count for the week. I have 2 more days than he did and I still imagine I will fail miserably, but I am at least hoping to “fail to success”.

If I beat his word count, I fully expect angels to sing and unicorns to be grazing in my front yard when I get home….
