Kickstarters That I Suggest… New Weekly Feature…

Yes, Going To Try This…

If you are starting a publishing Kickstarter, first off you can send it to me to check for you ahead of time. I will be glad to.

Or you can send it to me after you launch. If I think it works, I will list it here. I will say only positive things about any campaign I list. If I think one does not work or has too many problems to list, I won’t even mention it.

So send me your campaign by email with the subject line Kickstarter Campaign with a link. And if I don’t mention it, please don’t be angry with me.  Just trying to help out the writers who have leaned how to do Kickstarter fiction campaigns right.

I will try to do this every Friday. I will only list active campaigns.

So starting tonight, I found a few I think are worth looking at.

THE STORIES OF TANITH LEE… Special Edition of Tempting the Gods

By John Betancourt of Wildside Press

John has been around publishing since Kris and I did the first Pulphouse back in 1987. He knows what he is doing.

This has great art, great gifs, and good rewards. And Tanith Lee was a very special writer who has sadly been gone for over.a decade now,  so a project worth doing. It has “Project We Love” from Kickstarter and funded quickly. 30 plus days left. One worth both studying and backing. Study this one, notice how he does the words of the story.

MURDERFISH… A WonderBird Press Anthology

This is a science fiction, fantasy and horror anthology about fish.

This is the third one like this in a series, and it has some up-and-coming young authors in it. A bunch of them, actually.

It also has an audio edition as well as electronic and paper. Decent art and flow of the story and a ton of stretch rewards. 9 days left and it just funded.

TALES OF AEDREA DEUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITIONS by S.L. Rowland

He calls his genre cozy fantasy and he clearly has a good fan following. Great art and it got a “Project We Love” from Kickstarter.

He does a lot of things right in his story and has some interesting stretch rewards as well. And good regular rewards. And you should look at this just for the map of his world. Wow. He had a really high starting funding price, but he reached it and has 19 days to go. One worth studying and if you like cozy fantasy, whatever that might be, worth backing.

Wow! That’s a very kind offer!
I’m planning for November… hope you’re still doing this then! I saw the Tannith Lee one when I was looking at Pulphouse…

A Kickstarter technical Q, if you don’t mind.
If I remember correctly, your goal is never to have to handle the rewards yourself at WMG.

How do you manage the delivery?
I’m assuming dodging… but did that mean your people are hand-entering (cut-and-paste) every email address to BookFunnel and every small mail address to IngramSpark?
Is there some direct integration to connect the orders to the delivery of rewards?

Kickstarter gives you data files for everyone. You just do sorts and send the electronic data base through our stores to bookfunnel and send the paper and hardback data base to Ingram and then ship everything. For merch, we use our Shopify stores as well. Only thing we touch is signed copies and those are much slower for the customers.

Wow, I loved Tanith Lee’s stories when I was growing up. So happy to know about that campaign.

Thanks for doing this! This is a neat idea, and maybe I’ll have to think about finally looking into Kickstarter.
