Drop the Trop
Got Behind Because They Imploded the Tropicana Tonight…
To make way for the new A’s baseball stadium. They called the event “Drop the Trop.”
And I have to say it was way cool to watch on television. They had a drone show and a ton of fireworks and then the drones formed a giant plunger with a countdown clock and when it hit zero white light went from the drones to the two remaining Tropicana towers and they came down.
We could not hear it downtown (I listened), but got a hunch that dust cloud is going to make things pretty rough for the south end of the Strip for a few hours. No real wind tonight.
For those who don’t know, the Tropicana was built back in the 1950s and was used in a ton of movies, including “The Godfather.” Built by the mob, but they lost their shirt and had to sell out. Interesting history but even in my days playing on blackjack teams down here, I never went into the Tropicana and Kris and I never got around to it either that we remember.
So never a dull day living in Las Vegas.
(And if you want to see a real casino implosion, they used the implosion of the Landmark Hotel in the movie Mars Attacks.)
