Broadway Play Tonight
I Hate Romeo and Juliet…
Hate it with a passion brought on by too many years of having to deal with it and the pure stupidity of the plot.
So when the show & JULIET came up on our Broadway season tickets, I was not excited, to say the least. But Kris said a number of times this was one she had been looking forward to, so I trusted her. She was the one who tricked me into going to see COME FROM AWAY and that is my third all-time musical and not a chance would I have seen it if I had known what it was about.
My first favorite all-time musical is THE PRODUCERS since we also saw it with the original cast on Broadway. Part of why I love The Producers is because at its core it is a musical about writing.
So off we went tonight to see the Tony Award-winning jukebox musical & JULIET. Before the show even started a cast member was polishing a jukebox on the stage and ten minutes in I was laughing and shaking my head. And it just got better and better from there.
This show, at its core, even more so than THE PRODUCERS, is a story about writing. In fact you could learn a ton about writing from this one. Different aspects of writing influence and is part of every scene in one way or another. An amazing story about writing. I am not even going to say anything more about the show, and I would not suggest looking it up. Don’t spoil it. Just when you get near the Broadway Touring Company, go see it.
But remember, I hate every aspect of the play Romeo and Juliet, but this play & JULIET is now my second all-time favorite musical.
So at the moment, my all-time favorite musicals are:
- 1… The Producers
- 2… & Juliet
- 3… Come From Away
- 4… Wicked
- 5… Back to the Future: The Musical (not kidding)
- 6… Six: The Musical
- 7… Tina: Tina Turner the Musical.
It was a fun night. A musical about writing. Who knew…?

I’ve also got Broadway season tickets, and I’ve been counting down the days until & Juliet makes it to my city. (We’ve got a while to wait – March 2026). I’ll be taking my 12-year-old daughter. She and I go to all the musicals together since my husband’s not really a fan. I already knew the show had a fun concept, but hearing that it’s really about writing just bumped my excitement up another level.
From your list, I’ve seen and loved both Wicked and Six. I actually saw Six on a cruise ship. I wasn’t expecting much, but wow, it blew me away. Such a brilliant, high-energy performance. I’d absolutely take my daughter to see it again if we ever get the chance.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one, and the recommendations for the others!

Now you’ve got me curious.
But one thing that changed how I see *Romeo & Juliet* was someone saying it was never a tragedy. With all the blatant stupidity of the characters and the over-the-top-ness of it all, it’s a black comedy.

Still awful.
