Day One of Anthology Workshop…
Really Fun! And I even managed to buy two stories for Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. I actually wanted to buy five, but the editors of the anthologies had first choice and they wanted the stories for their Fiction River anthologies. But I am happy to get two great stories. And ended up in some great conversations on writing and kickstarters. So much fun. So I have some work to do before I go try to get some sleep and fire into day two. Night…

Reading for Anthology Workshop…
Wish I Could Talk In General About Craft Stuff… But not going to because that will be for those attending in person the anthology workshop. But reading this many stories at once sure is something. All the writers are good, but just what and how makes one story work and another not work. Plus we are reading across six topic genres. SF Mystery, Cozy, Military SF, Fantasy Regency, Ghosts, and Halloween Romance. All the stories were written for those FICTION RIVER anthologies, all edited by different people, and I am reading the stories overall for Pulphouse. A great story for the anthology would not be a great one for Pulphouse.…

Reading Manuscripts…
Getting Ready for the Anthology Workshop Next Week… I really love reading all the stories, especially since I am reading them as the editor of Pulphouse. All the stories were written for FictionRiver anthologies, but I am reading them as well in hopes the editor of the anthology doesn’t like a story I like. Great fun!! And for those who backed the Pulphouse Kickstarter, the August guidelines for the story have been sent out. If you missed it, check your spam filter and if not there and you are a backer, go to the Kickstarter, the August rules are there. Looking forward to reading those stories in September. And remember,…

4,380 Days Without Missing!
This Blog Streak Hits 12 Years… Without missing a day. Through web site crashes, power outages, me being in the hospital, and just forgetting at times, I always managed to type something every night for 12 years here starting August 1st, 2012. This shows the amazing power of streaks. And today had a ton of great news as well. I got my official discharge release from PT. 8 months almost to the day since I started. (I signed a bunch of books for them and told them I never wanted to see them again. (grin)) Two major business things settled as well today, so fantastic there. And we had a…

Something Fun for Me…
Offering This To Just Four Writers… A few days ago I made an offer to a writer who was hoping to attend a craft workshop next year with Kris and wanted to be ready. What I offered was this and am offering to four more writers now. Sign up for one of the 2025 in-person craft workshops taught by Kris, either Gothic or Adventure. See how to sign up on yesterday’s post or write me. (Sorry, no lifetime in-person subscribers unless you want to buy an in-person lifetime subscription now, then I will do it for you. Write me for the cost.) Send me a short story every two weeks.…

Long Day Ends Well!!
I Love It When That Happens… Kris and I had a very long Monday for business reasons too stupid to ever talk about. So by the time dinner came around, I was ready for the planned pizza at Good Pie in the Arts District here in Vegas. We met an old friend from the old science fiction convention days, Steven Silver, who was visiting in town and the conversations were great. And fun. And of course the pizza was fantastic. TWO GREAT NEW IN-PERSON CRAFT CLASSES… Both taught by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. I wanted to repost this to make sure everyone saw it with the Anthology Workshop in one…

New In-Person Classes
TWO GREAT NEW IN-PERSON CRAFT CLASSES… Both taught by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. I wanted to repost this to make sure everyone saw it with the Anthology Workshop in one week. The fact that we announced the next Anthology Workshop in August of 2026, we got a bunch of questions about the next in-person craft workshops taught by Kris. So Kris and I felt it was time to announce those as well so people can make travel plans and such. We already have one scheduled in January for Space Opera, taught by Kris and held at the Resorts World here in Las Vegas. That has one spot remaining. (Write me for…

Branding… Part 16…
I’ve Lost Track of The Numbers… A Branding Post… I got a question a few days back that was basically “Why are you so down on trademark?” Answer… “I am not.” But I am down on the seemingly purposeful desire to not learn on the part of fiction writers about copyright and trademark. Now that I am down on. And I don’t think a month goes by when some writer thinking they want to control something they dug out of the public domain (where all writing comes from) by finding an attorney hungry for money willing to slap a trademark on the thing. Stupid meet greed. Or worse yet, the…
