An Example of Two Brands

Author Brand and Project Brand…

This Poker Boy Kickstarter campaign we hope to launch next week is really pulling together some clear images of how branding looks on the surface.

I have an author brand that sort of got lost for a short time, but it back now very clearly. And projects it got lost on we will be rebranding very soon.

Then Poker Boy now has a clear logo and covers that will be consistent over time with cards and fantasy women.

So take a look at this image of some mugs we are offering in the campaign. My author brand, Poker Boy brand and logo, and the cover brand. This is how it is done, folks.

    Awesome Dean.
    This gives more ideas.

A question around fantasy women faces in the merchandise. Do we need to get a separate license for this or any other precaution to take. Thanks I am learning a lot from all your copyright related workshops.

Yes, you must have a commercial license for the art. Regular license gives you the right to have it on book covers. You need an extended or commercial license for merchandise like cards and much and such. A little more expensive, but not that bad.

In fact you need to watch your licenses for things like fonts as well. And never, ever use AI for anything.

Just on the AI thing, Dean. How would you avoid licensing AI art on a website like DepositPhotos, for example? Some of the art there is obviously AI, but I know AI’s getting good enough now that sometimes it’s really, really hard to tell, especially with things like vector art. And some artists also use AI, then touch up the art to make it less obviously AI and fix things like fingers and faces.

Also, looking forward to the design class!!

DepositPhotos is very careful with AI and police it because artists under copyright law can’t sign the TOS if they use AI because they do not own the work. Some places are more lax. Just be careful as you can.
