What a 69-Year-Old Does On A Nice Fall Day…
Runs Six Miles…
Kris, Val, and Steph did the 5K, I went for the 10K. Needed to see if my time would allow me to run the marathon next Sunday.
Well, it was a good test. The first three miles was all uphill. Steep between mile 2 and 3. Then it was downhill back. Did the first three miles in a run/walk in about 45 minutes (mostly walking), did the next three miles back down the hill in just about 35 minutes.
1 hour, 20 minutes, and got third in my age category of 60-69 so got another medal for that.
But not fast enough to run the marathon. I figure by next year at this time, to run a marathon correctly, I need to lose 20 more pounds and run another 5-10 thousand miles to really be in shape.
However, there is a marathon here in March I might try if I can drop that twenty pounds fast enough. I can tell you, hauling an extra twenty pounds for three miles up that hill was something I could feel and was not fun on old knees.
But made it!
And beat my previous best in a 10K by 15 full minutes. So a good day!
Pictures below. Kris took a lot of them because she finished ahead of all of us.

You beat your previous best 10k time by 15 minutes?! Holy smokes! That’s insane! Wow! Way to go.

Thanks, and both of these 10k runs had large hills. Imagine if I run one that is flat. (grin) . And the second key to breaking a personal best is being so very, very slow to start.
My PRs at the moment are:
5K… 31:19 (flat)
10K… 1:20:24 (hills)
Half…3:35:10 (massive hills)
This weekend I shall see if I can lower that Half PR by a long ways because I am running a flat course.

Congrats! Love the photos.
Good luck removing the last 20 pounds of weight.

This is fantastic Dean! Four years ago I went plant based. Initially vegan, but have adjusted to plant based instead an all or nothing. Now 62 I haven’t had a cold in four years, and have unbelievable energy. I started writing at age 59 and playing competitive tennis. You are definitely an inspiration.
