Challenge

Update on My Last Year’s Challenge…

Far Too Aggressive and I Knew It…

But considering the year I had just come through and the one we were about to go through, I needed something to keep my focus on writing every day. And what better way to do that was to attempt to write one short story per day for the entire year.

Totally worked. Of course I did not hit the challenge, I wrote 106 short stories. In a really bad year for other reasons.

I know a number of you managed fifty or so this year. Way cool, but my “failure” produced more short fiction than many writers will write in their entire careers.

Fail to Success. Exactly what I did. Exactly, and the very nature of the challenge kept me focused every day on writing. Total win there.

Yeah, I know I am weird, setting up a challenge I was almost certain I would fail at. But unlike many of you, I have no fear of failure and can use failure to move forward. The short story challenge was a perfect example. (And yes, this will be part of a week in the Mindset workshop that just started.)

So this year I have reset to two new challenges. Publish 75 major books in my 75th year without help and do one new collection every week for 52 weeks. Second week of November to the first week of November is my year. So far, though a bunch of learning curves and a bunch of things to finish cleaning up, I am on track and plan. So far. A bunch more to learn.

I really think I can hit this challenge, these goals. And in the process it will mostly clean up my short fiction.

So off into the future of publishing and writing, having fun, and getting stories and books out into the world.
