Steven Mohan, Jr.
Great Writer and Person…
I met Steven Mohan Jr. over twenty years ago when he came to one of our master classes. He was a former officer in the Navy and was hungry to learn writing. And learn he did, selling stories regularly from that point forward.
He ended up writing a lot of military science fiction under his name and another, including novels for Battle Tech. And he just kept on learning, working to be better. He attended a lot of our in-person classes over the years.
Steve was also one of the nicest and funniest humans I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Brilliant and clear of vision.
I knew he had been fighting a tough illness for years, but somehow he wrote for, and showed up here in Vegas for the Anthology workshop in August. You could tell he was not well, but he made every class with the help of his fantastic wife and family. His writing had taken an immense jump forward in skill and storytelling and he sold every story he wrote for the anthology workshop, including a couple to me at Pulphouse. And he sold a few stories to the coming Holiday Spectacular to Kris.
A stunningly good writer just coming into his prime. An amazing human being who served his country well for a long time as a Navel officer.
Steve left us on Tuesday when his incredible spirit and ability to fight just couldn’t hold on any more.
Damn… Hard to imagine a world without Steve in it.

Sad, sad story. Just shows that tomorrow might not happen. Live for the day! Do what you can. If you want to write, carry on writing until you can’t. RIP Steve.

So sad to hear. Steve has a story in the new Pulphouse (#34) that just came out yesterday.

I heard about this only a few days ago. It’s been a very long time since I last saw Steve, but I remember him as a very kind person with a great sense of humor. I am sorry for your loss and that of his family.
