Setting Up Challenges for 2018

Been Working on Planning…

I ended up driving to Salem this afternoon to get a couple standees from a theater there, but the place was so busy, the manager and I decided to do it next week instead since tearing them apart makes a mess in part of their lobby. Wow, what a zoo that theater was.

But I ended up doing a bunch of picking and got some pretty cool stuff. And the drive allowed me to do a lot of thinking about how I want to handle the 2018 goals and challenges.  So all good.

My main challenges are the two 67 Challenges. I will be doing some videos starting next week on each book released in the challenge.

And the second part of the challenge fires up this next week as well. I want to run in official races (like 5k, 10k, half marathons, or marathons) a total of 67 miles by November 9th. That’s going to take some getting in shape this winter.

An inside part of my 67 publishing challenge is getting Smith’s Monthly back on track. That’s a bunch of novels and short stories. So the logistics of how to do all this has been an interesting puzzle I will share here as the new year starts.

I will be adding for myself a new sub-challenge to help with the overall challenge. And I think I will make it a Kickstarter, even though I will do it even if the Kickstarter fails. Stay tuned.

I hope all of you are also working on getting ready for Monday. Not only with goals but with attitude toward a new year.

Want to Be Challenged for the New Year?

There are still three spots open in the novel challenge starting January 1st and two spots open in the short story challenge. You get two regular workshops out of it no matter how you do. But you will do fine if you try it.

Ticking clock… In three days this offer goes away.

Promotions Package

Three spots still open in the Promotions Package offer from WMG Publishing.

Ticking clock… In three days this offer ends as well.

Everyone who is signed up should have gotten the first very preliminary questionnaire from me. If you didn’t, write me.

Details if interested at https://deanwesleysmith.com/promotional-package-opened-for-five-more-days/

January and February Online Workshops Are Now Up on Teachable.

Getting all the workshops moved to Teachable has taken me almost seven weeks total, with all the details involved. But they are there.

It has caused me to get behind on my responses to the last short story and novel challenge because with only one good eye, I have limited computer time and the workshop move ate up a ton of that time. Also why I haven’t been writing much. Had to get that move done and take care of what is left of my sight.

So anyhow, if you have credits from the Kickstarter, you need to write me to sign up. You can also sign up through me and use Paypal just like normal. Or you can go directly to Teachable and sign up there for any workshop using either Paypal or a credit card.

To see all the courses, just hit the link at the top that says “All Courses” and it will show you all the lectures and workshops available.

I’ve been thinking toward Monday. I’ve been tweaking my daily routines and plugging in some writing time. I’m a huge basketball fan, and will need to reach a compromise with adjusting my TV time. Time to ask myself what’s important about a lot of things. Writing is important to me. At age 59 it’s gut-check time. Now or never.
Oh, and I just glanced at the name, email and website boxes below and I’m seeing someone else’s name and email address in there?

Not sure what you are talking about with the name, Mark. But it’s never too late to start ramping up. I started Smith’s Monthly when I was sixty-three.

Mark, I started writing fiction seriously in October, 2014 just before my 63rd birthday. Today I have 27 novels and over 180 short stories. Like Dean always says, just write and have fun.

When I come to read a post, my name, email and URL are in the boxes below, prefilled. Probably because I’m here every day. Anyway, I just wonder whether that’s what you saw somehow.

      Mark,

That happens to me as well on occasion. I will see someone else’s information in the boxes. I always assumed it was a sample filled in to show what to enter.

I can’t remember the name or we could compare notes. HA!
