Power Words for Authors…
Most Authors Have Trouble…
Hyping themselves in any fashion is just not a “comfortable” thing for writers to do.
In the sales copy class, the first assignment was for each writer to come up with 10 power words that they could use in sales copy to describe themselves.
Power words are words (not clauses) that carry emotion with the word. There are negative, neutral, and positive power words full of emotion. We wanted ten positive words a writer could use in a promotion sentence about themselves.
Numbers of writers got ten, numbers put full clauses, and so on. Fear once again raises its ugly head for no reason at all.
But author trust is a major reason book buyers pick up books. The author has to convince the reader they are a great storyteller and their book is worth the money.
So Kris and I put together a list of 100 power words that writers could use in sales copy about themselves. We will give it to those in the class on Tuesday, and we put them in alphabetical order.
Let me give you just one letter… nine of them… Positive power words authors can use… I am sure there are more in this letter.
Compelling, Celebrated, Creative, Captivating, Charismatic, Charming, Clever, Classic, Commanding…
Of course, we are giving all the writers in the class the list of 100 author power words, but sadly most will not even look at the list five months from now and never get past the fear of hyping themselves. And thus, not make a lot of sales.
