Novel Four: Day Five
ONE DAY LEFT…
(As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels. I also had an exercise goal that lasted for three quarters of the month and dropped away this last week.)
One more day to finish this last book. Baring unforeseen crap, I think it will happen.
We shall see. I can see the end now.
The Day Went Like This…
Got up at 1:30 p.m., did just a slight bit of e-mail and made it to the writer’s meeting only about forty-five minutes late.
Stayed there in the meeting and then in my office doing workshop stuff until 7:30 p.m. Then the grocery store and home to take a nap, and cook dinner.
Got in here to do e-mail late, so I didn’t get to it all. Sorry, if you are expecting a response for me on something, hang tough. Last day of the challenge after all. (grin)
The Writing Went Like This…
I have grossed myself out on this book a number of times because this isn’t horror, this is mystery, real-world mystery. What the human animal is capable is amazing and what I can think up scares even me sometimes. (grin)
I did 1,300 words between midnight and 1 a.m..
Took a break, another 1,200 words before 2 a.m.
I got another 1,400 words done before 3:15 a.m. because I watched fifteen minutes of television to stretch out my back.
Took a quick break and did another 1,200 words before 4:15 a.m.
At this point I finally spotted the ending. So back I went on a large cycle to focus the book at that ending, to make sure I hadn’t missed any details that would mess up that ending. Might lose one short stupid off-line cycle, but I will wait until I am completely done to decide if it really doesn’t fit. All standard for me.
That took about one session until 5 a.m. I gained no new words on that cycle at all.
Break and got another 1,300 words by 6 a.m.
6,400 words in 6 sessions.
I am within sight, so this book and this challenge will finish tomorrow night. Hell or high water.

I’ve loved watching you write 4 books this month. Very impressive. Question. What do you do at all these writing meetings you attend?
dwsmith
Talk about the business of writing at the writer’s meetings, what has happened during the week, that sort of thing. The meetings with WMG we talk about WMG business.
Dee
I admit – when I daydream about being a full-time writer (thinking about what a ‘real’ picture would look like)- I look at the Lincoln city real estate – the idea of being close enough to catch as many workshops as possible – AND the fact that there are enough career writers to have a regular meeting such as this…so tempting.
…Well… and there’s the Pacific ocean… you know, if you’re into beautiful places like that… (Lol!)
