New Year: First Day

New Year

After much dithering and pestering people around me and working out details, I have finally decided to just go for this new challenge. All outlined in the Topic of the Night that is above this.

THE DAY

Pretty standard up to a point. Headed up to WMG Publishing around 3 p.m. and talked with a couple of other professional writers there for a time before getting to work. I did a bunch of workshop stuff and getting the office ready for Monday.

Then headed to the grocery store to get dinner and went home, took a short nap and cooked dinner.

Then I got in here around 9 p.m. and continued the big computer move. If I don’t answer an e-mail within 24 hours, please contact me again. I think I have this pretty much set, but never know.

Then wrote 700 words on a new short story titled “A Long Way Down” which is a Bryant Street story.

The title just sort of hit me as I started to write down titles from old digests to add to more of my title sheets. I thought, “Nifty title… wonder what story would go with that one.” So that is the first title of the first story this year.

Then headed to finish off my 10,000 steps, then back in here to do another 600 word session on the short story before heading to watch television.

Back in here again around 2 a.m. to finish the short story. 2,100 words.

Kris already read it and said, “It’s creepy.”

I wanted “ugggy” but I’ll settle for creepy. (grin)

Then I did the cover for the story and also used the same art for the January cover of The Year of Short Fiction. That’s sort of the plan, to use the first story every month for the cover story.

Then around 3 a.m. I went out and read more on Kris’s fantastic new novel. I’m over halfway through and it’s everything I can do to put the thing down and get back to all this work I need to do.

About 4 a.m. I managed to get back in this office again and finish up all the work on the workshops. I will be sending out the first letters to everyone signed up for January online workshops shortly. The January online workshops start on Monday and still lots of room in all of them.

New Online Workshop.

March 8th, Workshop #27… ADVANCED CHARACTER AND DIALOG online workshop.

This will be NOTHING like the other workshops we have done. This has a focus on how to use dialog to build characters and all the many tricks of advanced dialog.

Full description will be a few days away. But I will take sign-ups now.

Also, the CAREER workshop has moved to Classic Status, which means you can jump into it at any time and go as fast or as slow as you want. There are now six classic workshops at half price of the regular workshops. Only difference is that you don’t turn in homework in the classic workshops.

The cover looks GREAT, Dean. And I like the idea of the stories crawling out from a title again, like the July series. Very cool!

Sounds like an exciting project. Can’t wait to see it unfold.
