TOPIC OF THE NIGHT: New Sacred Cow
Three letters over the past week sort of made me decide I needed to write this new Sacred Cow post now. All three letter writers basically asked the same thing How can a person learn without being critiqued? Valid question considering the power of this myth.
I have no memory of beginning writers in my beginning days having such an intense desire to have their stories patted on the head (or torn apart) before submission. I suppose it’s human nature.
But I flat don’t understand this crap about developmental editors, or changing books because of a bad review, or not being able to send out a story without a workshop beating on it first. What ever happened to just believing in your own work and getting it out?
So I climbed on my little donkey, grabbed my rusted sword, and tried to stab one more Sacred Cow.
