New Blog Structure…
Or Actually an Old Structure I Am Going Back To…
Three parts of the blog if I can every night.
- 1… Something About Writing or Publishing
- 2… Something About Learning or Workshops
- 3… Something Personal and Fun or My Writing.
I will miss one part or another, depending on time and events. But will attempt to have something for all three each day. Yeah, I know that is nuts.
1… Notes From An Editor… Part 2
Reading stories over the last four days made me realize something in general as the editor of Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. I love just whacked out weird stories that work as stories. You know, the basic seven point plot outline, just not mundane topics.
And back to Part 1 in this series, the weirdness needs to be up front and interesting. A good dozen stories in the last day or so got me reading then I faded. Not because of skill or craft, but nothing happened or what did happen was not interesting or different enough for Pulphouse Fiction Magazine.
So what is interesting or whacked out or weird enough for me? Damned if I know, but I know it when I see it. Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes it is over the top, sometimes it is a unique or different character. I honestly don’t know.
But if you feel the story is too weird to show you mother, too strange to send it to a major magazine, I might like it. But send it to the major magazines first because those editors are as tired of mundane as I get and you just never know.
2… Workshop Updates.
Dean and Kris Show will be starting December 3rd on the WMG Writer’s Store. Kris and I will for eight weeks focus on how to help you really charge into 2025. Plus there is a webinar involved. Don’t miss it.
Those who backed the Holiday Spectacular 2024 Kickstarter, I sent out links through a Kickstarter update to get into the three quarters of Bite-Sized Copyright and a link and coupon to get the 4th quarter for half price. That is $1,500 in free classes on this Kickstarter and if you already took it or are a Lifetime Everything Subscriber, you can give that code to a writer friend. Heck of a gift.
But so far less than 60 backers have used those codes to get those free classes worth $1,500.
And speaking of Lifetime Everything Subscriptions, for a short time we are offering that (which gives you all 400 plus classes and workshops on Teachable) at $4,000 instead of $10,000. Plus anything new we decide to do on Teachable. Write me directly if you are interested.
3… Glittering Lights Fun Charity Run…
Kris and I and Steph and Val joined 2,000 families in their PJs for a holiday run under the grandstands at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and all the way around the outside of the track. And the entire 5K distance was lit up by stunning holiday lights.
The Las Vegas Aces had their logo in lights at one point and a 5-year-old girl ran over in front of it and had her mom take her picture. Did my heart good.
I walked, of course, and even back years ago I walked. I just love the lights. This year I bought myself a cup of the best-tasting hot chocolate I can remember ever experiencing and sipped it the entire 5K while enjoying the lights and watching all the kids have a blast.
What a perfect start to the holiday season here in Vegas.
Some pictures of the fun run I like the most every year, and this year was the best I can remember.
First picture is of the entrance under the grandstands and me holding my huge cut of hot chocolate up.
Second picture under the grandstands… This part was maybe 3/4 of a mile long and changing every few hundred yards. (Kris will have more pictures on Facebook of the actual displays I am sure.) Last two pictures is us hanging our finishers medals.
