Challenge,  Kickstarter Campaign

Kickstarter Fun…

Kickstarter and Fiction…

One of the main topics after hours and at dinners at the Anthology Workshop this last week was Kickstarter. That sort of makes sense since Loren L. Coleman was there and I was there. Loren did a 10 million dollar Kickstarter and I have done 42 of them now.

There were a number of writers attending who had done varying sizes of campaigns along the way as well, so it was a popular topic for the week.

So for fun here on my blog, as I get back in and revamp the Kickstarter Best Practices to update it some with Loren’s help over this next month, I figured I would start a regular topic here called Kickstarter Fun where I focus on a few Kickstarters that I think are really well done and should be backed and studied to learn how to do your own.

First up is Curveball Cursed by Brigid Collins. Curveball Cursed is the second book of the Fairies and Fast Balls series by father-daughter team Ron and Brigid Collins. A whole new season awaits you in a world where the magic of baseball and the tricks of the fey meet up for a double-header like no other!

Really fun combining of baseball and magic, with some fun art and great rewards. You can get the first and second books together.

Very clean and clear campaign and it has funded and hit some stretch goals, but only two days left to grab this one.

A second one that looks like fun (if you like a little spice in your fiction) is called Spicy Fairy Tales by Candace Osmund. Do you love a good spicy spin on an old fairy tale? How about SIX? If you love movies like EVER AFTER, TV shows like ONCE UPON A TIME, and books like BEASTLY and CINDER, but wish they were waaaay spicier, then you’ll love all six spicy novellas in this gorgeous collection!

She’s a Canadian author and I have never read any of her work, but she has a lot of backers and the concept of six novellas is fun. The campaign has lots of fun stuff as well and is clear to the backer what they would be getting. Just like the Curveball Cursed campaign, this one only has a couple days left.

Both campaigns are worth studying.

I’m gearing up for my fourth Kickstarter campaign right now, a sequel to my PULP: MONSTERS collection (which was successfully funded a few months back). My first KS attempt was a dismal failure, my second and third both funded. The difference? After the first one I took Dean and Loren’s class. My advice: take the class!

      And it’s free. (grin)

And have me or Loren look the campaign over before you launch to check on details.
