I Have Been Lucky…
Yes, Even With Everything Going On…
I consider myself amazingly lucky that somehow I have been able to continue in this profession of fiction writing now for fifty years. I mark that fifty from selling my first short story.
For going on thirty-nine of those years, I have been super lucky to have Kristine Kathryn Rusch as my partner. We met when we had both sold a few short stories and just kept on going through all the ups and downs.
There have been some amazing ups I can tell you, but also some stunning downs. We just keep on going, enjoying the storytelling and the publishing and our friends and each other. Over the years we have been hated by some of the best haters in the business, and we have also made close friends that stuck with us through it all. And we treasure those friends every day.
The last episode of the old Castle television show had Castle accepting an award. And he gave a speech about how even though writing fiction would seem like a solitary task, it can’t be done over time without the support of family and friends. I can’t agree more. Kris and my friends are my family.
If you have friends and family who support what you do no matter what you do, treasure them. They are priceless.
THE KRIS AND DEAN SHOW…
Starts December 3rd and runs for eight weeks. The focus will be to help you get started in 2025 and make it your best year ever, both in writing and in sales.
Back in the early 1990s, Kris and I started doing these talks about writing and publishing and what we wished someone would have told us when we were starting. People found them funny and informative and thus someone called it the Kris and Dean show and the name stuck.
This one will have Kris and I together talking about a subject each week and then some videos to expand on the subject. And then for an hour every week we will do a recorded webinar to answer questions on that week’s topic.
It will be held on www.wmgwritersstore.com and if you are really wanting to get a fast start with your writing and publishing into the new year, this class will be fun and really help you. Watch a short promo video of us talking about this PREPPING FOR 2025.
Class starts December 3rd, so jump in now.
SOME FRIENDS…
Speaking of old friends, there was a group of us who came into writing together back in the 1980s. We shared information, met late at night at conventions, and supported each other, and even though when we started the group, we had only sold short stories, all of us became bestselling writers.
The group included me, Kris, Kevin J. Anderson, Dave Wolverton, Rob Sawyer and a few others. Here is a picture of me, Kevin, and Dave from a few year’s back as judges of Writers of the Future at their big event. And a picture of me, Kevin, and Rob last year.
Wow have I been lucky to have such great friends for the last 38 years.
I still miss Dave.
