Fun Kickstarter Workshops and Video

Kris and I Are Having Too Much Fun!

On Tuesday at noon, we are launching a new Kickstarter Campaign of three of Kris’s science fiction books. ALIEN INFLUENCES which was a stand-alone and highly-acclaimed sf novel in the 1990s and she is updating it and bringing it forward. BROKEN WINDCHIMES, which is a long novella that won the Asimov’s Readers’ Choice Award. And the third book is a brand new collection of over 70,000 words of  Kris’s science fiction short stories called STRANGE PLACES, STRANGER PEOPLE.

The campaign already got a “Project We Love” designation from Kickstarter which is very cool!

Here is the link to take a look at it and read Kris’s introduction, which will answer some questions about us, and click to have Kicksstarter remind you when it launches.

WORKSHOPS EXCLUSIVE TO THE KICKSTARTER…

We got some great suggestions for possible workshops and we are taking one suggestion. And while we were laughing over lunch about the different workshop ideas, Kris said, “We need to teach Handwavium. It is critical to writing science fiction (and some mystery).”

She is totally right. The ability to wave your hands (craft techniques) enough that readers won’t pay attention to something else that can’t possibly work is a critical skill that newer writers are missing. Like a magician who is moving something with one hand while the audience is paying attention to the other. Handwavium is how you create illusions and control a reader.  Critical skill, something we have never tackled in teaching, and combines information flow, depth, and character development just to get to a base level. Should be a real eye-opener. And only in this coming Kickstarter campaign.

The other workshop is from a suggestion we got. We have never taught GRAVITY and INERTIA in science fiction. Both are massively important and never writers just pretend neither exist because of two reasons. Never think about it or just don’t understand. And experienced sf readers notice.

So again, this will be an eye-opening class, even if you think you understand gravity and inertia. Trust me, when it comes to science fiction writing, you don’t, or don’t understand the techniques of Handwavium to make sure the readers don’t notice.

Two great workshops exclusive only to this campaign. Don’t miss them.

And here is something really fun.  Kris did the video for the campaign and it is a hoot.  In the promotions you can read with the link above, Kris talks about how she came up with doing this campaign full of aliens.

She really had fun with this video and no AI involved at all. In her blog on Patreon this week she explains how difficult that was in this modern world.

Here is the youtube link to the video. Enjoy.
